That it seems many people prefer Skinny Hinderer XM-18 to the standard version makes me wonder if it is a good idea for KAI to manufacture skinny versions of ZT 0562 (of course with a gtg from Hinderer himself). I know I would buy one or two. What do you folks think?

As an owner of a ZT 0562cf my next purchase will be the Hinderer XM-18 Skinny yeah it's going to hurt my wallet but at this point it's inevitable.

I'm not really up on the xm skinny. What would that make the dimensions for the 562 version?

Based on what I found, the blade would be thinner at 0.14" (as compared to current 0.16") and the handle would be thinner at 0.44" (as compared to current 0.49"). The weight would also be brought down to below 5oz. Honestly though, I have not held a skinny xm-18 3.5" but folks who have it are saying the difference is significant (of course as compared to standard xm-18).

Are the skinny ones frame or liner locks?

They have skinny framelock 3.5 xm18s which have thinner handles and bladestock and skinny 3 inch xm18 linerlocks which due to being linerlocks only have thinner bladestock.

The ZT 562 already has a skinnier handle than the 3.5 inch XM18 framelock it is modelled after. They could potentially release a version of the ZT with thinner bladestock though. I guess they could also release an even thinner ZT 562 handle.

It might be a good move considering how popular the 562 family is in their lineup.

Either way I am happy to see more companies ditch the overbuilt thing and focus on thinner more pleasant to carry handles and blade stock.

That’s why I bought a 0566.

Maybe zt needs to make a 0555. A blend of the 0550, 0562 and 0566. Skinny like the 0566. On washer and no flipper like the 0550. Slicer grind like the 0562.

An unassisted Ti framed 0566 slicer would be a great knife. The size is great for EDC and for my hand.

I would love to see this. The 566 should have been a ti framelock from the start. I believe it can be currently de- assisted without an issue as it has a detent, so not only the torsion bar is holding it shut. It would be nice to see it without a flipper too.

As it is the 566 seems sort of like a souped up Kershaw Cryo to me.

De-assisting works but doesn't make it the best flipper, you have to do it with authority. However it does make the studs functional so you can thumb flick and middle finger flick (which actually is my prefered method) so it's a win that way. The detent isn't stiff enough to get a good launch with the flipper but it wouldn't take much on ZT's part to get it to work like a 0562.

Hey ZT, you out there??

Well, the cryo/cryo 2 is a hinderer design, so they're going to be similar. Like the Atmos and 0470. Same designer, just more intricate and better materials and fit and finish.

Personally I love the 566. I loved using my cryo and cryo 2 before I picked up my 566, and still do use the Kershaws on occasion. The 566 is great the way it is, a less expensive ZT, but still built as well as all the others. A Super Cryo I guess you could say. If they make another hinderer in that size bracket unassisted and in titanium they should give it another designation imo.

And I would buy one... Lol
