How about some Abalone pics?

I think my next knife purchase is going to be something with Abalone scales. Probably one of the GEC Looking Glass knives but I have not decided yet.

I don't have any knives with Abalone scales and lately they have sparked my interest.

It will be a few weeks until I get one and some pics from those that own them would help me decide exactly what I want.

Anybody got some Abalone traditional pics they would like to post? Any brand or pattern. Let's see what you've got.

Thanks.

These are the only 2 I have. Both Canal Street Cutlery Half Moon Trappers. The Green Abalone is #8 of 25 and the Pink Abalone is #3 of 6.

Great pics of some great knives guys. Thanks for sharing them. Man, that Abalone is some sweet looking stuff.

A few hours ago I got a nice little surprise from my wife. She had gotten me a gift certificate from one of the knife dealers that I buy from. She was going to give it to me for my birthday at the end of the month but she gave it to me today. She is a member of this forum and although she has only posted once, she often gets on the forum to learn about knives. She saw this topic that I started and decided to give me my gift certificate now.

Thanks to my wife's desire to spoil me rotten, I now have a Tidioute #61 2 blade Congress in Green Abalone LG on the way.

Keep those pics coming folks. I still need something to tide me over until my knife gets here.:D

I've got a couple:

I don't seem to have a photo of the Gerber Silver Knight as yet.

I've come close to getting a couple more abalone handled knives lately, but just haven't pulled the trigger. I guess it is because I don't want to carry and use them because of the fragile beauty of the handles. But, I sure like looking at them.

What's Looking Glass?

Looking Glass is what GEC calls their less expensive Abalone knives. Instead of the handles being made entirely of Abalone, there is just a thin layer of Abalone at the base of the handle. The rest of the handle is clear acrylic. Someone recently described Looking Glass as being similar to the old "picture knives". A picture at the base and the rest is clear acrylic. This way you can buy an Abalone handled knife but not pay a fortune for it. I think GEC might use LG on some their pearl handled knives as well.

Thanks to all for the pics!

I have both my first traditional and first abalone knife on order and it should arrive friday or monday and I cant wait. Abalone Case Lockback. I'm pretty excited to have this to both be pocket jewelry and a great user for when my usual carry would scare people.

Here's a group shot of some Remington import stuff with 440 blades and nice abalone handles.

Some of the pieces have really nice depth to them, but of course they are all smaller, as there are two pieces per handle side, with a nickel silver spacer in between.

I got my Abalone LG Half Congress in the mail today. Nice little knife.

This is my first "Looking Glass" knife and I was a little bit worried that I would be able to see right through the acyrlic when looking at it from the side. I'm happy to find that this is not as pronounced as I thought it might be. I can see thorough the acrylic but I have to hold the knife exactly edge on. The Abalone shows through at all other angles. The Looking Glass design provides a nice combination of elegance and affordability.
