I've never thrown axes before. How fast does it tear up targets compared to 8" knives like this?

It will be the difference between a mosquito bite and a dog bite.
Any type of axe will usually do significant damage to targets.

If you have some heavy rounds, it won't be too bad at all.

Some targets, I find that my knives chew them up more, just because of the grain of the target, and the knife sticking sideways actually cuts the fibers of the wood.

I have one stump that held up to decades of throwing. I finally cracked it in half with a full sized poll axe (had a crack for years, and I was none too gentle over the years of moving it and stacking it and dropping it off the base).
