I had a brain fart.
Why don't any companies line liners and non-plastic or Carbon fiber scales with teflon or mylar or kevlar or an epoxy coat or some other very thin yet durable material to prevent blade scratching? This should allow for thinner designs of knives. What do you think?

MY first thought is if the knife is designed and assembled properly, your blade shouldn't be rubbing the liners. Also it would probably ad to the cost depending on materials used. Then like you said it would have to be durable so it doesn't wear off.I salute you though for trying to think of ways to improves products, keep up the good thinking

It would cut down on scratches from the handle when the blade swings over to far. Sometimes all that needs done is to tighten the pivot but you don't necessarily catch it before the blade is scratched.
The problem is that any rubbing at all will wear the blade. You might just end up with a mirror finish on one tiny spot instead of a scratch. Depending on the lining material , I guess it would take longer for it to happen though.
