i was modding a bunch of CS Trail Hawks the other day, and thinking of this teeny-tiny little pocket hatchet i saw as an artifact in the Alamo last year, when i was visiting Texas-by-God.
the caption under the little hawk read that it was a common thing back in those times to have one in your pocket - the whole thing couldn't've been more than 8 or ten inches - which makes sense, since steel was probably fairly rare, and the mouse hawks took less steel than a big knife (don't try to talk me out of my big knives though ...hehehehe...!)
the mouse hawks i am making are a little bigger - mostly i just like the head size - and i am hafting them on longer handles just to see what they will do (initial impressions are WOW. )
anyways!
- do you brethren have some mini-hawks and hatchets that you love...?
Dude McLean of Dirttime.com, who is a field editor for Wilderness Way Magazine, almost always has his with him when i see him in the field.
got some pics...?
i'll show you mine when i get them finished this week (God Willing!).
i bet brother Ken C or Survival Sheath Systems could whip up some nice shoulder rigs for them.
muchas gracias, compadres.
