How am I supposed to use this?

Just got my first piece of INFI in the form of a Custom Shop SFNO with mosaic pins. I intended this to be a hard use knife. HOW DO I USE A KNIFE THIS SEXY? Seriously. I'm impressed as hell and can't stop fondling it. So impressed that I am suffering from a sort of "Unearthed Booty Paralysis Syndrome". Now, I'm not really in to "Safe Queens", though I understand the rational. I also understand that some folks like to flip knives later and keep them pristine, or just COLLECT sexy knives. I would really like to see some pictures of hard use Custom Shop knives so I can break my Busse Cherry on this one. Please, Show me the INFI!

I don't have any custom shop knives yet (been waiting two weeks now :D), but I suggest taking that pristine Busse outside and show it some love

Good luck and don't forget the pics

No custom shop knives, but do what I did to make your new knife a user.

Take it outside.... BURY it into a tree, repeat several times until the tree falls. There's no turning back now.

Close your eyes, turn your head and slam it into a stump or a tree.

Pretend it owes you money..

just USE IT!!!

So, the common train of thought is to just dive in. First, two questions... Mosaic pins won't slow me down right (I can baton and beat just like any other fixed blade if I decide I want to)? Second, does Busse use stabilized burl (so blood, guts and fluid won't scar it)?

Holding my desk down before I beat on the SFNO. Sorry for the crappy picture:grumpy:

Duuude, it's a BUSSE! Of course it won't slow you down. Okay, well it might slow you down in the sense that you'll stop to stare and admire it after every whack but other than that, it's still tough as nails. Beat that sucker!

Man, with that one don't worry. If something breaks it is covered by the warranty. And the nice thing about satin is if you want it to look pretty again just send it in to the spa and for a fee it can be made good as new.:D

Even with mosaic pins?

The SFNO is a great all-around practical size and style, and I bet that one's a wicked slicer. It would be wrong to not use it!

Congratulations, that's a beautiful knife. I once had the same decision to make - whether I should use the knives or keep them as "safe queens". I just recently decided to use all knives that I buy. I'm glad I did, because once you use a knife, you look at it differently. To me, a safe queen never really feels like "mine". I guess in the back of my mind, I think of it as a knife I will one day sell, and therefore it is never truly mine. When I use a knife, I have a feeling of ownership that I can't get with a safe queen. Just my 2 cents worth.

Treat it like a biker chick, not a prom queen.

<thinks back to prom night>

Er, maybe treating it like a prom queen is pretty much the same. . .

While that *IS* a beautiful SFNO you have there, it will resent you always if you don't flog it rigorously. Since it's your first (CONGRATS!!!), you may not know how sulky Busse knives can get when they don't get their daily ration of tough love (chopping, slashing, cutting, hacking, etc etc etc).

So beat that bad boy like the family mule!!

And then post pics. (click link in my sig for tips to take good knife photos)

I'd bet my last nickel that the answer is "Yes." Jerry's a fanatic (highly obsessive compulsive and anal retentive) about making sure that whatever carries his name out into the world WILL NOT FAIL!! And if you do anything that does damage the handle, simply send it to the shop and they will make it right. Busse's "No Bull$#it, You-Break-It-We-Fix-It Warranty" is infamous around here.
