How ar the P'Kal knives holding up?

Recently picked up a P'Kal. Well made as has been my experience with Spyderco.

Impressions are favorable so far, though I find the lock operation to be a bit more than one-finger-needed easy. Quite the slicer and usable in a number of grips.

Just wondering how this model has been holding up in daily carry.

Any change in lock engagement, such as getting smoother or engagement depth? Anyone snapped a blade?

I carried mine for about two weeks and it's fine. I wouldn't be scared of snapping the blade unless you're abusing it.

The lock was smooth as glass to begin with, and engagement depth has stayed constant with no play. The blade is hardened, and the ball bearing is hardened, so there should be little wear on the lock.

Congrats on the knife!

They seem to bed holding up well. The one I currently have is my 2nd one & it works great. It's definitely fine for what it was designed for.

I don't carry mine daily, but it does get carried a lot, and it's holding up very well. Actually, since it really was designed for only one purpose, it looks and works like new, since I don't really use it for anything else, except to do drills, which I do relentlessly.

So, after hundreds of openings and closings, the lock and smoothness of operation haven't changed a bit. I would expect nothing less from a Spyderco of this caliber.

And since the use for which it is designed doesn't require a knife with any special robustness, I think it will probably remain like new for the rest of my natural life, and beyond.

I disagree that a knife intended specifically for self-defense doesn't require "special robustness", but I get you're point that it isn't intended as an EDC and you don't carry it for such.

Me, I only carry two knives - a short blade and a preferred blade. The P'kal's blade isn't near 4-inches in length, so short blade duties it will perform.

My tip broke for stupid reasons, but I resharpened it, and now it's all good again! Had it for about 6 months, carried it as a backup regularly.

Spyderco's finest SD folder, IMHO. My primary SD EDC except in winter months.

Top quality, built to last. But as others have noted, its intended function is SD, so its actual usage, other than training, will hopefully be minimal.

Like others, I carry a different blade for more prosaic tasks.
