On the CS VN 'hawk, the head doesn't look like it's attached with the traditional "drop-the-tapering-handle-through-the-tapered-eye-until-it-sticks" method; rather, it looks like the eye isn't tapered all that much, and the top of the eye is filled with some kind of plastic or epoxy. Anyone know how those heads are attached? And how sturdy the attachment is?

No sure what their attached with. Something that is pretty brittle. I removed the head and expermented with using glue and a wedge.

I own one and it is similiar to the attachment of a hammer. The hawk head is slid onto the handle then wedges are hammered into the handle to expand the wood. I have beat the thing up pretty well and it is still rock solid.

I got this response from Cold Steel

"The handle is attached by inserting a "Swedge" at the top of the handle and an epoxy to seal."

Ya know? I couldn't tell you. I "googled" the word swedge and came up with no definative answer. Probably a thing that Thompson came up with to be better than 99% of the competition. smirk.
