How are new Buck trappers?

I noticed recently that Buck had some of their made in China line at Wal-Mart, and was wondering about the trapper model in particular. Does anyone own one, and how does it perform?

I already own a 314 Trapper and mini-trapper (for about 10 years) with the black phenolic resin(?) handles. Nice knives, by the way, long discontinued.

If anyone owns both 300 or 700 series knives, how do the off-shore slip-joints compare in f/f, and cutting/edge-holding/resharpening, and corrosion resistance? How is the feel compared to their old black-handled 300 series in terms of walk & talk?
Thanks,
Jim

They are great, I have every model of the new Trappers, and not a bad one in the bunch!

The large 384 is especially nice, a real solid pocketknife.

i was given one and now i will buy one they are ok to use yet you are not afarde to lend it out ...
f/f very good... sharp out the box they are not hard to sharpen either..

I have two, fit and finish good, snap good, I am a snob and only carry American made, but would give them as gifts to young relatives, scouts or adults that I have knowledge of being grind stone happy.

If you have a 314 you know the 384 pretty well. For most of the Chinese Bucks if you subtract 70 from the model number you will get the model number of the US made equivalent knife so a 384 is the Chinese version of the 314. This works for most of the Chinese knives except the muskrat. It should have been a 383 but I think it is a 372. Ah well.

Thanks for all the replies!
The one thing that kinda concerned me about my 314 is that the hollow-ground blades were almost too thin(?), the spey blade almost like a straight razor. I love really sharp blades, but I almost feel the ones on the large 314 esp. feel a bit fragile, or at least on mine (the blades on mine are almost like a mirror polish). Though it's well-made.
Would the blades on the new models hold up to slightly rough cutting chores, like a stockman? (I like stockman models as well, though there's always been something about trappers that I like their shape and feel).

I didn't really care for them. Granted I only handled them in the store but my SAK Recruit had and has more snap than the Buck slippies I held. Perhaps the WM I went to got a bad batch or somethin...
