I'm pretty familiar with the mass-produced knife techniques of manufacture, but Opinels are unique in that they are made of wood, and made in a first world country-I doubt that they have a lot of hand finishing going on. anybody know?

For the low price they sell for, I doubt if they do too much hand finishing on them. I would assume machinery does most of this. They are great cutters & a great value for the money.

I love them-I was just wondering about the actual manufacturing process..I'm surprised that there isn't a "factory shot" floating around somewhere.

I picked up an opinel from a knife show a couple months ago. The man who sold it to me said he has seen early pictures of a company making these knives. dozens of people lined up doing different tasks. He didnt provide any information like when he saw this or when the picture was taken, but I doubt it still works this way.
