I got one and like it though I'll never use it, but can't figure what holds on the handles.
No rivets showing. Glue?

Yeah, what is that stuff? Been asked around for a bit based on what I've seen on past threads. What is the horse glue that keeps the liners on? IIRC, someone from Buck said it was like loc-tite but nothing more specfic...must be some hella loc-tite.

I like the Sambar but read somewhere it has bugs (larvae) that can creep out and put holes in it...lovely. So, I'd "prob" go with elk. Don't care too much for Water Buff...but never seen one in real life.

So many Bucks, so many choices. Gotta figure which EDC to take this weekend when I go hunting with the VP...

Goose you are to funny.....you better keep the VP close enough so you can give him an EDC poke in the ribs after he blast's you face off :D .

Watch out. That other guy sure got Dicked. If the deer ever start wearing orange blaze we are all in big trouble.

Don't worry too much John and WTB...
I'm taking my little Buck (does that make it a "doe") 513 with me. I thought about it and figured that the small size will make it ideal to pick out buck shot (get it? BUCK shot). So, I think I'll take that and my Alaskan 110.

If you are coming to Texas to hunt, be sure and buy that blasted new stamp, whatever it is.

They are tax stamping us to death down here. Duck/Goose, turkey, redfish, now quail and after this probably a lawyer stamp....

I'll try a different tack. What kind of tax stamp does Buck have to get to put the scales on the bowie? Is it a GLUE stamp or something else?

Someone said it might be a hidden pin tax stamp.

Oh hell, what the buck do they use?

Ya know...I can't find anything that specifically says "we use eiei0-12-bucklemyshoe here at Buck".

Sooooo, I'm guessing it'a a secret family recipe (I was gonna say "ancient chinese secret" but I wouldn't want anyone getting thier kimono bunched up).

If any of ya get to go the Buck family house for dinner, throw some mashed potatoes, (fake a food fight) and let us know if it sticks.

Tax Stamp? VP doan need no stinkin' tax stamp...

Hey PackRat...it don't matter what the dude is huntin'...even if it ain't duck, you better DUCK!!!!

Yep El Pollo, BUT, is it red, blue, black, or rainbow loc-tite?

You took the words right out of my mush...and not a moment too soon, either... :D

So let's do a little detective work...334dave says he knows what it is, and that it also can be taken right off with the proper remover... ;) And Joe Houser says it's LocTite...

So we snoop around the LocTite site...

http://www.loctiteproducts.com/products/

Looking under Glues and Epoxies, we see only one product has a remover...Duro Super Glue...

http://www.loctiteproducts.com/products/subcategory.asp?CatID=15&SubID=35

As it happens, this is also what was recommended to me by the guys in the Knifemakers Forum here...although they didn't mention that there was a remover also... :grumpy:

So, this is the one that gets my guess as what Buck uses to glue scales on...

Ever thought of asking the good folks at Loc Tite what variety Buck has contracted for? God knows they must sell them a lot of it.

B-b-but Jim BOWIE didn't use no ...... GLUE !!!!

Did Jim Bowie really *make* the knife [with his name] or was it made *for* him???

I seem to recall a movie or TV show where the knife was made from a meteorite...but Jim would have had to be a blacksmith to make anything out of that...

yes while i dont recall the product number and such, it was a lock tight that i was told buck used and that the working time is only a few seconds and that you could remove it...
i did not chime in as was in hosp with problums ...
on a 'bowie' knife... it was made by a friend of his.... was styled after a french chef's 'butchering' knife (when a chef still would still have to butcher his own meat) and it become well talked about after a fight in which he killed some one in the cressent city... this is off the top of my head as i am not at home and dont have access to my files but there are also referancces to others using a 'bowie' knife as early as 1850 or so...

'buck' knife as you all know is under constant attack to be used as generatic term jest as a 'thermos' bottle has become generatic for a vacume thermal bottle made by the thermos company...
to prevent it i am sure buck must send out lots of cease and discess letters... you have to activly protect your trade mark or you can lost the right to have use of it exclusively...
