How are the Trance locks holding up?

Hey folks,

First post in this forum. I'm thinking of picking up a Trance. I've been eying them for a loooong time and reading reviews like crazy.

Awesome design Chad. Long time no speak too bro. :)

Anyway, I was wondering how the frame lock on this knife has been holding up for everyone that has them? They still have good lockup after much use? Anyone have their lock going all the way over to the other handle?

Just curious as I'm about to pull the trigger on one. I've not decided yet on the reverse tanto or the drop point.

Thanks,
David :)

Had the lock go to the side after about a year or so. Just disassembled, cleaned, and lubed, then reassembled about 3 months, and no problems so far. Locks at about 50%, full width of the lockbar.
My only issue isn't with the lock-up, it's the flipper, which is nigh useless on the original model (takes a decent bit of wrist flick). However, flicking it open with a thumb is VERY easy.

A lil vertical blade play, no side to side blade play, but there's no blade play at all when I grip the knife, and therefore tightening the frame lock from gripping it.

I've disassembled it, cleaned it, and oiled it, but I need wrist flick for the flipper, the blade locks up at about 60% with a lil vertical blade play, and when I grip it, it's about 95% lock up, and it has absolutely no blade play.

I had no problems what so ever with Trance. Being lock or blade play. I think its one heck of a knife and a great quality. Definitely my favorite and i dont mean just from my Boker knives. I promise you, you cant go wrong with Trance. Or Subcom for that mater. They are really well made!

If I'm not testing a knife or wearing a favored Spyderco, the Trance is my prefered carry. My lock is holding up fine.

Well I bought one 2 days ago. Can't wait for it to get here. Ordered the drop point model. :D

I think I will have to molest it after I use it a while. Maybe some nice G10 or Walnut scales.

Bead blasting seem to hold up well on the AUS-8? If not I'll polish the stainless.

Mahalo everyone!

Good to see you HERE David!!! About friggin' time.
:D

Anyway, I sometimes get some lateral play, but that is easily remedied by tightening the pivot a bit. I guess since I use the ala Carson Flipper a lot, it works itself loose after awhile...a long while that is. In terms of lock issues, NEVER had a single problem with that, and I am still running my original Trance from when it first came out!!!

ya know, and yes, this may be biased, but out of all the designs I have done to date, the Trance Variants remain one of my very favorites. I rotate one of them in some form or other with my HYPER.

NOW...I just pray the Wharncliffe version will me made someday...

God bless and do keep us posted David!

Thanks everyone.

Also thank you Chad. Good to see you too bro. I can't wait to get it. It's gonna get some work carry for sure because it's the perfect size. After a week or so I'll have to put some new scales on it just because I can. :)

Take care and be safe in hell man.
