How are & which SpecOps sheaths work for the BK&T line and an OKC RTAK-II

Greetings all,

So I have my beautiful Doug Ritter/Ethan Becker, Rowen made RSK Mk2 Perseverance in hand, and yes it is beautiful. I have #71 and hope whoever received #76 would be interested in a trade. What is everyone thinking about in regards to sheathing options for the Ritter? I was looking at SpecOps and the Combat Master looks like a great overall sheath, however the RSK Mk2 has a 6" blade, is that cutting it close (pun intended) for the 6" or would I be better off going for the 8" version?

Does anyone use an alternative sheath on their BK3? I'm not quite fond of it, it's just... there, you know? Since it's a beefy 7" blade, does it fit in the 8" Combat Master?

Tom Gannon provided some great information regarding sizes and possibilities of the SpecOps sheaths, what are your opinions?

I need matching sheaths (OCDs at work) preferably from SpecOps (yes I know they have a limited line so very similar sheaths would be nice) to fit a BK2/3/7/9/11-CSM/14/77, the RSK Mk2 and an Ontario RTAK-II.

Although price isn't a concern, I would like to be realistic about it (i.e. avoid HedgeHog pricing). Let me know what everyone uses for their 9+" mamajambas.

Thanks for reading.

If your not dead set on getting the Combat Master, you could get a Texas Hunt Co. sheath. They are basically the same thing made by the same company for half the price (while supply lasts). I just ordered one for my BK-7 and it fits.

now that search is working, if you look up Guyon and sheath, you'll find a wealth of previous posts that he has put together that are about as comprehensive as you can get. if i'm not mistaken, he was planning on linking these to the various existing FAQs/etc.

probably time for a thread of threads for all things sheaths, instead of answering the same questions :) that's why we have FAQs, so we can natter about OTHER things. like booze, guns, sex, bikes, sports teams, digital cameras, ...

the standard spec op or texas hunt co sheath fit the BK 3, 5, and 7 quite nicely. other sizes are going to be more difficult.

I read somewhere that Spec-ops is considering making a 10" sheath, but at this time they just have the 6" and 8". The BK9 and the RTAKII are not going to fit in a Spec=ops sheath.

Arkanian, I think a short Spec-Ops would work just fine.
I've had one put back for my Ritter Perseverance for some time now.
That appears to be my new MO BTW. Buy a sheath and THEN get the knife. :p
At any rate, I pulled out the knife and sheath for you and took some pics.

The blade edge looks like it's going to clear just fine.
Here I've got the bottom edge of the scale matched against the top edge of the liner.
Keep in mind that behind that bottom screw is a much smaller diameter barrel.
So it's actually not even as close as it looks.

The liner is going to require a bit of molding because of the thumb ramp.
That's easy to do with boiling water, and I've posted up clear directions here on the forums in a couple of spots.
Hope this helps.

True. There is a thread in the Busse forum about this matter, and tundratrader is talking to Spec-Ops about the matter.
The more support and ideas he gets there, the better. Just do a Busse forum search for Spec-Ops, and it should pop up near the top.

Thanks as always. I'm likin' your style Guyon, I think I'm a new devotee of the buy sheath first... that way I have to buy the knife, can't just have the sheath sitting around! Not like I really needed motivation to buy more steel, now however it's self justification ;)

Tom, looks like I'm gonna dent your inventory of SpecOps.

Hope so. Then I'll be able to order some of the 8" version.
The liner comes out easily after you remove the screw at the bottom. Then you can warm and shape the top of the insert to fit the thumb ramp on the Ritter. On the 7 I turned into a 10 I ground the ramp off and put jimping on. Not suggesting you modify the Ritter.
