How are your 635s holding up?

I'm just curious about the long term evaluations of the 635 mini skirmish...it's been high on my list for a long time, about to pull the trigger. I'm especially concerned with lock wear and how easily it's scratched.

I'm also interested to see what peoples experiences are. Ive been thinking aobut getting a 635.

Well I've only had mine for less than a year but since no one else is posting, I will.

Based on my experience with my mini-skirmish, I can't conceive that lock wear would ever be an issue. The lock-up is VERY strong, but the frame lock only engages about 1/2 way with the tang. There's a good 1/8 inch of space before the lock would come into contact with the opposing handle scale.

Also, when I first got my 635, it seemed like I was forever having to adjust the pivot because it would get a little loose and the blade would start to rub against the scale opposite the lock when the knife was closed. I would wind up tightening it to a stiffer tension than I liked, just to put off the inevitable loosening and blade rub.

However...without having done anything but use it, it appears that this problem has self corrected and now the pivot maintains the tension level on it's own. I don't have the problem of gradually loosening action or blade rub anymore.

So again, based on my own experience alone I would say the knife needs to be broken in for a good while to get the kinks worked out.

The S30V blade holds it's edge for a long time, and I've not had any issues with chipping, In the 10 months or so that I've had it, it's only seen the sharpmaker twice. One was a reprofiling with diamond rods, and the other was just a touch up. That was a couple months ago, and it's still shaving sharp.

It's also not difficult to sharpen at all, despite the recurved blade. I just use the corners of my sharpmaker stones at 30 degrees, and skip the flats. Niether the reprofiling nor the touch up took much time or effort.

Based on my experience I expect this knife to do good service for a very long time. It's an awesome knife in my opinion.

I hope this helped.

AM,
My BM 635 (First Production run #726), which I've had for almost a year, is showing signs of lock wear. To begin with, about 50% of the lock face engaged the blade tang. Now, after some (not extensive) use, about 90% of the lock face engages the blade tang. It still has a way to go before contacting the opposite scale, but not too much. YMMV.

Regards,
3G

P.S. AFAIK, BM's framelock lock-faces are not heat treated like the CRK Sebenza's are, so they will wear a lot quicker.

Also, the S30V on my 635 seems very hard. It is much more difficult to sharpen on my sharpmaker than any other brand's S30V I have used/sharpened.

i can't speak for long term durability as i've only had mine about 3 weeks, but i will say that it would take alot of force,or wear to move the lock bar all the way across the tang,as there seems to be a small stop on the lock face preventing this.
