Greetings from the Holy Land!
I recently salvaged a Cold Steel Pro Lite Tanto knife which has been abused by my wife and used as a kitchen knife. The knife was left for prolonged periods in water and I have been working hard at removing the rust from the blade and other parts.
However, there is one part I am unable to remove the rust from: the pin holding the backlock pressed against the blade pivot. It is a small, black, metallic part embedded into the inside of the plastic handle. It keeps the tension on the back lever so that you have to press it to release the blade and fold it. That part is extremely rusty. I've ordered some sandpaper but in the meanwhile, can the knife be used safely? If that part fails the blade will immediately fold into the handle (or my fingers).
Also, I've used vinegar, baking soda, and mineral oil trying to remove the rust. Any other ideas?
Thanks,
Udi
