Your collection that is ---
do you have one?
Has it been completed? What is the theme?
Is there one?
All inquires welcome.

I've been interested in people's motivation and drive for a knife collection for a littler while bow, having sold over 130 knives on ebay to diminish my own. What inspires, awakens, or sparks it's growth?

Egad. Mine is varied, no particular theme, other than variety of colors and materials. I have too many now, my case is full.

Size, length, and girth vary as well.

Blade length 2.5-3.8" folders.

I only have 3 fixed blades, maybe 25 folders.

I have circa 24 folders. My only sub-collection is composed of Damascus Mnandi's (I have 6).

Otherwise, I have 6 customs (5 slip joints by various makers and one Michael J. Smith linerlock); 5 William Henry's with Damascus blades and exotic scales; and a Strider PT, Kizer Begleiter Mini, and Pena X Zulu, all with Ti scales.

And 3 OTFs: an MT Exocet, MT mini Troodon, and H&K micro Incursion, all California legal. And a few other knives like a SAK, etc.

So, a mishmash, but I love them all. My Instagram is gatorloki49 if you want to check them all out at once.

15 fixed blades, 15 old time slipjoints, 3 modern folders, and 2 multi-tools....that's it, 35 total. I use/carry all my slipjoints, folders, multi-tools and two of my fixed blades. Slipjoint theme would be mostly stockmans. Fixed blade theme would be mostly drop point hunters. Nothing incoming unless one goes out first.

After I sold most of my knives I gathered a rather peculiar assortment of kit made on Finland Sweden and Norway, mostly made in Sandvik 12C27 or 14C28N
I'm just super impressed with true Sandvik steel from these regions

I feel a bit better after reading some of the previous posts. I only have 40 or so folders and about 20 fixed but am guessing on both counts.

Not really a collection in my mind, more of an accumulation as others have also stated.

I could sell some but don’t want to deal with the hassle. Just keep slowly adding knives that interest me.

16 folders, 2 multi tools, 4 fixed - 2 of which are blanks waiting on me to make the handles

Collection is not completed. Started out a few months ago without a theme, but now theme has gravitated to US made knives.

60 folders or so.
14 fixed but 7 are Moras stashed in various places.
5 Multi-tools (SAKs are included in the folder count)

I'm not done buying knives but I want to thin the herd.
No theme other than I never paid more than $160 on a knife. I'm totally content in the $50-125 range.
When I find a knife I like, I tend to buy sprint runs and exclusives. I own several Delica, Endelas, and Endura in various steels and colors.

I currently have 72 folders, some of which were pretty pricy. And I am hoping to purchase a more expensive house and a ring, so I need to sell some (ideally, over half) of them. So I got the knives out to photograph and sell.

So far, since beginning the process of selling my knives, I have sold negative 2 knives (i.e., I have purchased two and sold zero).

Being 18 my collection is just getting started. I have like 40, but I only regularly carry a handful of them, including a Demko AD20 in carbon fiber and a custom Ti pocket clip, BM bugout (That I swap back and forth between titanium and brown G10 flytanium handle scales), We Saakshi in G10 which I dyed blue, Spyderco PM2 with custom Ti pocket clip, as well as a couple custom fixed blades, one in s35vn and black & red micarta, other is in CruforgeV and curly Acacia.
Overall my collection only includes a few that I’ve made myself, though I do have a couple more fixed blades in the works for myself, one in damascus with a honey comb pattern handle, other is a hunter in magnacut and some beautiful stabilized dyed maple burl (If I ever get the time time finish it 😅)

I try not to accumulate to the point of hoarding, and usually have about 8-10 modern folders/autos at any given time. I get what I like, and get rid of things that don’t see much carry/love after an indeterminate time, generally selling off one or a few at a loss to finance the next endeavor. I have no overlying theme, nor do I feel the need to have every version or variant of any particular model, though I do have many traditionals just because there are so many patterns to choose from, and they tend to be more affordable than the high-tech moderns.
