I have a few friends who are knife makers who are going to be at blade show along with some that I don't know like Storm crow and rick from wilder tools that I would like to show a couple of knives that I have been working on in person but one of them is a 11 inch blade bowie knife. does anyone know if I can carry these on my belt or in a backpack??
thanks in advance.

I don't think size is the issue. Hearsay cold be haphazard given the question you are asking.

Why not contact the Blade show organizers at bladeshow@fwmedia.com ? OR just show your buddies after the show hours at one of the meet and greets?

I could post a wip in shop talk or I could try to meet you at the show.

If you post a pic of the knife and sheath I'll bet I can find you at the show (I'm not joking either!) also this is purely a guess, but I was alway under the impression that there was no legal limit in GA until you committed a crime, then it's 3"....again just a guess.

ok here it is I cut it out along time ago when I first got into knife making I thought that a big knife was a good knife but it was to big to fit in my forge so it sat around for along time it is made from a leaf spring (i know but its what i had at the time).

so you know if you look for me I will be there on may 31st only and I am 18 years old 6:4ish and 150 pounds.

I could be wrong (yep, even me ) but I think the blade length thingy has to do with folders, and not sheath or straight blades. Otherwise it would be illegal to own/carry a machete. (now who would want to do that?) Just carry it out in the open and nothing should cause any problems legally if you are behaving yourself. Also good advice from Ron_m80 about contacting the show organizers to see if they have any objections to your bringing it on the premises. That may be the deciding factor, and I would adhere to their ruling. Good luck and enjoy the show.

Blessings,

Omar

That is awesome! Also, I love the sheath!

I've seen swords, machete's, short shords, axes, polearms, halberds, and many more exotic blades within the confines of the show.

As well as tons of knives on the hips and belts of guys at gas stations, fast food, and grocery stores.

They are kinda used to it by now, I think, as, the knife nuts decend upon poor Cobb Galleria once a year, en masse.

If you can carry it in from the parking lot, and it will fit through the door, I think you are good to go.

See you there.

Never had anyone raise an eye browl at the show. Lots of people carrying around knives, especially ones that they have purchased there. Swords... I had to keep that one off my belt as I felt stupid at the show. Nobody cares.

I believe Georgia, in it's entirety, now has a "any knife under 5 inches is OK without a weapons permit" law.

I guess knife shows have some special clause?

Like my Bro. Moose said, if you can carry it through the door you're good to go. It is the biggest knife show on the planet so knives of all sizes are expected to be seen. I have seen folks walking about with huge Bowies on their hips, one guy I remember walking about the show had a Bowie that was well on its way to his ankle. :p

The only issue you may have is the accusation of "brown bagging" if you are caught trying to sell with out a table you will be out on your ear pretty quick. You will not have any trouble if you are only taking a couple of knives to show your friends, but keep that in mind though. :)

thanks guys I sent an email to the folks who run the show unless they say I cant I will bring it. thanks 9blades. :)

Just my $.02, but if the carry law is knives with a 5" blade or under (seems to be no different fixed or folding), you may want to wrap up that knife, maybe in some brown paper or carry it in a box that's "sealed" (taped) to bring it in. Since you're attending a knife show, you have a reason to have it with you, and it is "secured" (i.e. not readily available to be wielded/used). Once at the show, I'd imagine the LEO's there probably won't hassle you a bit having the knife out and maybe even wearing it unless you give them a reason, but getting to & from the show may be a different story...

Others with better interpretations or ideas, please post 'em! :)
