Different pics on the web of this model present the color in a range of blues, from "bright" to somewhat muted, as different cameras and lighting conditions will tend to do.

Can any compare the actual color to something standard, say normal denim (not the sytlish faded stuff), or cop-uniform blue?

It is not as "muted" as some digital cameras make it look, but on the other hand it is not so bright as to be "loud".
It is very close to the most "standard" blue that you can imagine. In artist's terms, it is Ultramarine Blue. Not dark like Prussian Blue, not light as Cerulean Blue, but plain old standard blue like Ultramarine.

Not very helpful, maybe, but how can you describe a colour?...

True. I am wondering how "obvious" is would be when clipped in the pocket of dark blue pants (jeans and uniform). A silver clip is sometimes not a problem, and can be changed if necessary. But the handle color is a bit more permanent.

The one I had was roughly the color of the cap of a blue BIC Crystal Stick pen. Just a touch brighter.
