Seems to be a few of them coming out.

There's the Cold Steel Rajah: http://www.coldsteel.com/62kseries.html

The Citadel Folding khukuri: http://www.coltelleriacollini.com/citadel/index.html

And supposedly one from Spyderco: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=539623&highlight=bushcraft (about halfway down the page)

I'm thinkin' they're pretty darn cool!:D

I just got in one of the Citadels with a Buffalo Horn handle. fit is...functional, finish is remarkable. blade came with a scary razor sharp convex edge. I think the fit and finish is due to the water Buffalo Horn drying and shrinking with age, and travel. I took the scales off to tighten the blade a little bit, and had a MAJOR headache re-assembling it, cause water buffalo horn don't stretch too good once you take it off. Still pretty cool, and I look forward to using it. Much more my speed than the Cold Steel or the Spyderco, personally.

Anyone else gonna be interested in 'em?

"Interested" as in "hmm...that's interesting" or "interested" as in "I want one"? They are interesting, but outside my price range for a knife like that. You'll have to fill us in on the details, but I imagine the forward-canted blade is mostly aesthetic. Still, it's cool as an homage to genuine khukuris.

Besides, where's the cho?

I've been using the heck out of that Citadel since I got it, and I'm actually very pleased with it's usefulness. did great harvesting/trimming rhubarb, wild roses, and willow yesterday, did an absolutely fantastic job on kitchen duty yesterday, and whittles, makes fuzz sticks, batons, (striking the blade) etc. very proficiently. The performance just might lead me to take it hunting this season and see how it does, but so far it's really made me happy with it's cutting performance. That makes it an unusual knife for me, because I'm normally not at all a lover of small recurve blades in it's size range, and generally prefer a Puukko for ithis size range and these kind of tasks. I probably wouldn't have been half as pleased if the blade wasn't so sweetly convexed.

Bear in mind, I don't know that I'm recommending this one for purchase by anyone else. Between my buddy and I we've got three Citadel liner locks, and they're all three the same. The liner goes all the way over to the right against the other liner as soon as the knife is opened. Two out of three of them actually have a very tiny bit of top to bottom blade play. That being said, they all three pass a spinewhack test just fine, my folding khukuri having taken some pretty stout whacks. So...the fit is pretty awful, but...the darn thing works just fine and does what it was made to do...

The Spyderco blade, rreally has very little recurve or belly. I haven't handled one yet, so I'm really just another unqualified opinion, but being designed by Ed Schemp and made by Spyderco, I imagine it'll be a darn nice usable product.

The Cold Steel....well.....I dunno quite what one would do with it, but a folder with a ginormous six inch blade.....I'm sure someone could find a use for it!:D I've got a buddy that runs a knife shop in Anchorage that says he's sold a few of them before they even hit the shelves, and says it's a very impressive piece for what that's worth.

Hmm....there is a missing cho, aint there? Aren't those things supposed to represent fertility, and thusly strength? If I'm remembering that correctly, then I'm quite pleased with a lack of fertility in my household being a parent of a surprise two month old baby girl and all.. (albeit one of the two most wonderful surprises of my life, the other one being my 11 year old son)

If I change my mind though I suppose I could always go to work with a chainsaw file....

I like the looks of the Cold Steel blade the best. The spyderco looks cool too. The Citadel looks the least khuk like to me, but glad to hear it performs well. probably won't spend 150 on the CS product though. That would get me a pretty nice HI product.

same here tom, i like the cs's looks, but not at that price..add to it that i pretty much despise cs khuks in general and you can bet i wont be buying one.

a while back, there was a H.I folder.

I wonder what happened to it, as I don't recall there being a second.

how did you find the liner lock on the citadel?

Dave, I'll give you three guesses and the first two don't count.:p ;) :D

I'm not certain but I'm pretty sure there are at least two of the folders but if there is I don't know who has the other one.

I forget what it was called, but the old heavy CS khukuri was OK. The later one was more of a khuk shaped machete. They don't have the soul of the HI product though.

I'm really not that impressed with the Liner lock on the citadels. Between my buddy and I we got three of them. all three locks go all the way to the right, and two out of three knives have top to bottom play. Having said all that, they do all three lock up solidly and have taken some pretty fierce spine whacks without giving way. To thier benefit, (through my very odd perspective) the liner locks are stainless steel, which I consider to be an asset.

They've all got incredibly nice blades, Some of the nicest I've seen in quite some time, in fact. however, the fit and finish is terrible. I'm very, very happy I have the ones I have, but if I get any more Citadels, they'll most likely be of the fixed blade variety.

I think Cold Steel has had vaguely khuk-shaped folders for a while, as has Kershaw. They show up every once in a while, but there are quite a few hitting the street now.

The Citadel looks the most like an kukuri to me.

Ed Schemp's knife is cool, but doesn't feel like a kukuri to me (but does feel useful).

Cold Steel? <yawn>
