I have a bunch of pocket knives but I really want a fixed knife for some reason. does anyone know how to make one with simple tools? I don't care about the handle. In terms of blade style, I guess I don't really mind but I would like a shape kinda like a cleaver or tanto shape. Thanks.

simplest method would be to take a hacksaw to a bar of known cutlery steel to cut a profile, then use a file to draw file the grind, sandpaper to your taste, a drill for holes; You might attempt to do the heat treat although it is better to send out to someone with the skill and tools for the job, then wait to get it back, clean up and put a handle on it. Many makers on youtube with videos; to make things easier, a cheap angle grinder and a belt sander are your best allies.

You could start with a blade blank from a company like Jantz Supply. All their “numbered” models are excellent quality and made in US. Various steel types and shapes available. You can buy scales & mounting hardware from them as well, which you would then shape the way you want. It’s a good way to learn about how knives are put together before diving into the tricky business of shaping & tempering steel, which generally requires lots of expensive equipment.

This^^^... If you wish to proceed and make a blade your self, Jantz sells knife steels, get a few good files, a hacksaw, lots of sandpaper & a big jar of elbow grease!

Take a folder you don't love and fill it with epoxy. Should stay open:poop:.

I also endorse the YouTube idea. Search how to make a knife with everyday tools and you'll have yourself a project.

This might not be your speed, but if you care to splurge a bit, get a angle grinder and some files. I’ve made a couple of knives from old circular saw blades, and while I’d never argue that there better than properly made and heat treated knives, I think they make fair blades and are a good learning experience.
