How can i raise money for cancer?

A man in my town was in remission from brain cancer for years and now it came back , he is in stage 4. In july there is a benifit dinner to raise money for his family. I want to raise money somehow to give to him and his family. I have no idea what i can do. Any ideas would be helpful. I was thinking placing coffee cans for donations in local business' . Maybe take up a collection in church? All ideas welcome. Thanks P.s could i call large companies and ask for donations?

Why reinvent the wheel? There are people who are raising money for cancer already. Ask them how you can help.

Unfortunately, the American Cancer Society is not the most respected of charities. Less than 75 cents of every dollar given to it actually goes to programs.

It sounds to me, though, like the OP is more interested in helping this one specific person than in cancer in general.

Talk to a local gun shop about raffling off a rifle or shotgun? Or a local knife maker about raffling off one of their blades - purchase blade with raffle funds if you can't afford to buy it yourself.
If hunting is big in your area, talk to a couple of guides about raffling off a hunting trip.

You can either sell as many tickets as you can, or sell a fixed number of tickets (100 or 150) for $10-$20 each per item.

Pancake feeds or spaghetti dinners are another option.

I would start with your church or his church. There may be a fund already there for hospitality, or health. Sorry to hear that. It is not easy.
