How To how can I sharpen the tip of my knives (last half inch) without damaging the blade too badly

this has been a problem recently with one of my knives. I don't use an expensive sharpener, just a simple Lansky sharpening system, so that may be the cause but I'm not sure. I've tried "just going at it" but it won't work for some reason. (the knife this is a problem on uses SOG's aus8.)

What type of "damage" are you causing?

Rounding the tip, scratching the coating, increasing the bevel thickness, chipping?

Due to the way the lansky guides the stone, if you have the clamp near the handle, the angle will be much lower out near the tip. Use the sharpie trick to make sure you are making good contact. What you may need to do is index several positions on the blade for the clamp, to keep a consistent angle.

Worked great! Thanks
