What is the cheapest knife you wouldn't be afraid to edc
I gotta say the victorinox classic sd you can find it for 8 bucks at Walmart but it is a great knife for the price.

Always have had one on my key chain for the last 10 years. After a few years the scissor spring usually breaks and I replace it. Around here they go for around $12 though.

SRM H03, about $6:

SRM 702, about $9:

Opinel 06, they can be had under 10 bucks, and I'm a huge proponent of them. So as long as you only use them as a cutting tool.

Victorinox makes some very affordable pocket knives. I have a Classic on my keyring and have a Bantam in my EDC rotation. Opinel makes good affordable knives too and I've used a Mora Classic for a number of years as my fixed blade for camping and canoeing trips.

That is actually the point of why I carry some folders. Utilitarian and no tears if lost or broken. Buck 110, Cold Steel Voyagers or Mackinac Hunter (a bit heavy), Ka-Bar Mule (also has noticeable weight), SAK's, Endura (a little on the flimsy side for harder use). Spyderco Resilience which I put into a hip bag about two years ago after an oiling and forgot about. Man that thing has a spooky large blade. etc

There are good cheap knives and then there are bad cheap knives... Price is not always relative to performance or actual value. When you can get honest accounting for materials, workmanship, fit and finish, and actual performance then price becomes relative.

The quality that I'm most comfortable with starts at about $50. That's generally what I tell people to expect to pay when they want to get their "first good pocket knife."

I always have a Cold Steel Kudu in my backpack. Cost me $6. I'm super pleased with mine. I've abused it until it got super dull, put a chip in it treating it really rough, then in maybe ten to fifteen minutes put a super sharp edge on it and it's ready to go again. The chip is now smaller and barely noticeable when I cut things. Impressive. Krupp 4116 steel really performs way beyond what its price point might suggest.

I buy Vic Classics in TSA lots for about $5 a piece; give 'em away as gifts. People usually love them.

I purchased a Vic Bantam for $12. It is a great EDC; disappears in the pocket, does all of its functions well.

Svord Peasant knife for under $15 is a great value. Steel is very good.

Just obtained a new Brown Mule sodbuster... needs a bit of work, but you end up with a decent traditional knife afterward.

Got used Buck 444 and 302 for under $20; both solid EDC knives. Lots of Bucks in the low $20s worth considering.

I have a bunch of Opinels, a Douk Douk, several Enlans, an SRM slip joint, and several CS Kudus. They all get edc'd from time to time with no worries. Rough Riders, Steel Warriors, Byrds, Mercator K55's, and Okapis should also perform admirably for edc use at low prices.

edit: For fixed blades, Moras and Cold Steel's "Krupp" line are great choices.

$1.50 Mora fixed blade (got it about 35 years ago). Moras are still a good deal.

I have a couple of Opinels that are in the EDC rotation.
