How chic!

hmm, 17oz for $30.00 (sale price). No thanks, unless I was one of those unique metrosexual males.

I kinda like it. I drink a lot of water and I'm all for cutting down on waste, especially plastic bottles.

Since my old military issue canteen finally gave up the ghost I'm in the market for a new bottle. But when I'm out for a run or a walk, that old canteen was very awkward because of the size and I don't wear a belt that'll support an ALICE clip without twisting.

For the price I think I'd rather have a larger Kleen Kanteen that's easier to carry.

Uhhhh, hehe, hehe, yeah.. (Beavis and Butthead style) ..

Thats one mighty purty Canteen.

The idea has potential. The pouches they make remind me of my wife's purses... I'll pass.

$5 for the same thing at a army/navy surplus store. May look cool, but definitely not worth the price.

I had thought about giving one as a gag gift to my nephew when he graduates from the artillery school at Ft. Sill, but $50 - $60 is way too much for a gag; plus I don't want him to dis-own me...

Lots of us have purchased stainless steel water bottles for close to what the uscanteen costs. (My Klean Kanteen holds 27 oz. and cost $28.) I might like the uscanteen better in that its shape allows it to go in pockets that my Klean Kanteen may not. Fill with boiling water and tuck inside a jacket and it might get you through a survival situation.

"Metrosexual" is one way to put it! Nice idea if they'd "man" it up a bit- and while they were at it they could get over themselves with the prices- that's a $90 hit "on sale" for a canteen and carrier! Not even Maxpedition goes that far.

OK... Because I'm sort of a gear nut, and bottle stuff has been on my brain lately, I admit I think the canteens are sort of cool. I like the double-walled idea. BUT, I think that even at 50% off they are quite overpriced. I'm not keen on the small capacity, and as someone mentioned, the carriers remind me of llittle purses.

But who am I to really knock the US Canteen stuff? Just this past week, I broke down after about a year of looking and fondling, carrying around the store and putting back... I finally bought a 20 oz SIGG flask with cup. Yeah, yeah... It is only 20 oz, but for me the added nesting cup put more utility into the package. It's sort of like a smaller, sleeker version of the USGI canteen and cup. I figure I can use the SIGG combo in a small day hiking kit, and/or give it to the boy to use when he gets a little older.

The flask and cup are stainless steel. The flask does have a flat bottom on it and will stand on it's own. But for use around fire or in coals, I'd probably prop it up with some wood to insure it doesn't tip over. I made tea in the flask yesterday. Water + tea bag + sun for a while.
