I think that in Bura's mind he has this image of what the proportions of a narrow blade khukuri should be.

To wit;
I bought the 18" Chitlangi that was one of Yandu's clearance specials and received it today (the usual quick HI shipment, thanks!). I pulled it out of the scabbard and thought "Man, this feels a lot like my Siru."; so off to get the Siru I go. This Sirupati is one my favorites khukuries and is also one of the first I got from Uncle Bill several years ago.

Yeah, this Chitlangi is a lot like my Siru: (Apologies about the photo quality)

The new Chit is beautifully executed except for a stutter in regards to how the rings line up on the handle. This is my first in a while and I'm not real enthused about the new marking. Seems a little cluttered, maybe putting the new mark ( did we ever find out what it signifies?) on the other side would look better (IMO). It also came sharp, though I haven't cut anything with it.
I'm not sure if I'll keep it or pass it on as doesn't fill any niche that my Siru won't.
Regards,
Greg

nice comparison

Use it before you decide whether to keep it.
It may feel different in the chop, don't know.

I'm partial to fullers
and the big butt on the chit & others.

agree, the blades are getting pretty busy with markings.
I like the factory mark + a kami mark, but no more
maybe they think => we think "more marks are better"

fascinating comparison....for once, I think I'm actually drawn to the one without the fullers....seems cleaner/simpler...

What about the weight and balance, Greg? Are they the same for both?

Dan,
I don't have scale I can do an accurate measure of their weights on.
They seem to heft the same to my highly calibrated (referenced to 12 fluid ounces) right arm though.

As to balance, they are as close as I care to check:

I like big butts and I cannot lie,
you other brothers might try to deny...

I have an 18" Chit (horn) and a 21" Chainpuri (wood) that has the Chitlangi flared buttcap as well. The retention is excellent on these. Give it a swing, you may like it. I never thought I'd need another khuk when I got my chiruwa AK, then I bought a few on a whim and the UBE and 21" GS are my preferential choppers now. They just work better for me.

Steven - gotta admit I had the same thing chiming in my head when I read it....:D
