How come nobody warned me rehanging is addictive?

It all started innocently enough. Pick up a few Cold Steel tomahawks. Sand down the shafts so they mate with the heads securely.

Then I found an old Stanley hammer head in need of a handle, so I did that.

Now I'm looking at every old hand tool around the house, and contemplating getting new handles for each of them. I'm thinking about asking neighbors if they'd like me to rehang their old hand tools.

The way things are going, I know how it's going to turn out. I'm gonna be browsing pawn shops looking for old axe and hammer heads, and buying them just so I can put handles on them too! Why wasn't I warned that this activity could prove itself to be so addicting!?

Good for you! Great for resurrecting your own stuff but as a hobby this won't prove to be addictive when FleaBay bidders merely recognize that a new and well-fitted handle only ups the overall draw by a dollar or two. Some things you do have to keep to yourself, that or specifically have to begin to cultivate a reputation for properly restoring old tools.

You might as well prepare yourself .... monies will be exchanged. What is amazing is that a project that was presumed to be too much bother to do - a hammer became a useless lump simply because it no longer had a handle? - turns out is remarkably rewarding and inexpensive AND not even difficult. You did a really nice job on that hammer too, so you already know how it feels and BAM the addiction is set in. Not to go on some philosophical tirade, but that's what I'm gonna do, I think a lot of people have either forgotten or don't even KNOW the feeling you get when you build something with your hands. Americans sit in cubicles and serve fast food and press buttons. Humans are tool users, tool makers, and inventors. It's my opinion that we MUST create things and experience that success. Like any addiction, you'll need more and more and I think that is how humans have continued to make more and more amazing things.

Yup...i'd say i caught the bug too. I have been to every antique shop, pawn shop, junk shop, auction, and garage sale in the area ever the last week. The ladies at the antique shops all know each other and talk. They all call me "Jack the Ripper" due to always asking if they have any Axes or saws....a little creepy maybe, but at least they all have a good laugh and are happy to see me when I walk in...also they all know who I am and are starting to call me when cool vintage tools come in :D.

I know the feeling Alan, at the couple of antique shops I frequent they say "Hi Jeff" and point me to the axes. Sometimes they'll even save a few special ones out for me they think I'd be interested in.

When you start leaving your children at the pawn shop as collateral then you have a problem. Until then it just fun & games. :D

Oh, ho, ho, yea! :D It's all fun and games hanging wood handles, .... then you start tinkering with leather & metal......

you were not warned, because you did not ask. Beware, traditional knives are addictive, too ... especially the Rough Riders ...
