How come so few finer production folders w/o guards?

Seems like it is so hard to find a folder with better than aus-8 steel that has any kind of tine or bottom guard to it. I realize some have finger choils, but you'd think that serious-use knives might have some kind of guard, like a Cold Steel Master Hunter does. I know Combat Elite makes some with guards, but if you want a production folder under $200 or better than 420/aus whatever, there aren't too many.
