How Come we are drawn to what we feel is cool or good or acceptable to use? for example, I have a friend my age who makes near twice what I make regarding annual income and I do very well. We both have another friend who is a bit younger and is still working his way up to where we are but a long ways out. My well off pal buys the knifes on home shopping network (30 knives of all shapes and sizes for $49.99) and when we are on a hunting trip will by every knife he see's at store counter. ($3.99 or less way-middle east junk). Our younger Bud has about 4 awsome knives. A Loveless he got here in MI. at a G/K show. A CRK Sebanza, Some monster Busse with a rippled blade and a smaller more usable Busse he wears on his belt as an EDC. I am the middle-ground guy. I have the G-10 S30V/ CarbonFiber BG42/ VG-10 Captain Spyderco's. I have a Bradley 1rstProd Alias and a Lone Wolf DoubleDuty, along with a boatload of Crkt's and Natives it goes on & on for me. Heck, I just got a CS Hatamoto and it is a dandy! The cheap knife bud will not use his knives for anything in camp and borrows one of my knives for tasking as his crap lays about everywhere. Our younger Pal loves to play with his masterpieces but seldom gives them the workout they are worthy of. He is always planning his next Gigantic knife purchase which takes him about 6 to 9 months. Me, I am always on website/eBay or Local knife shows looking for another "The One" to add to the already way too many pile. My Q is why do we like what we like do what we do, and where do any of ya'll fall in and How Come? Thanks for listening! ~baba~

Ahh, the Search for the 'Perfect Knife'.

All the knives that I already have are allright but I just know that the 'One' is out there if I can just find it.

Maybe my next purchase will be 'IT' and then I can rest contented that I have found 'My Knife'

The Search continues.

(maybe I should just go ahead and make it myself)

I have a friend that just spent 500$ on a new gaming console and 700$ on a TV, but 20$ is a lot to spend on a knife to him. Reminds me of your well-off friend.

Some of the Busse fans remind of of your younger friend. I see posts on the forum there talking about putting their new Busse's through the paces or "abuse," and take a look at pictures showing their knives doing nothing my Opinels haven't been doing for months. I once heard a theory applicable mostly to his crowd, the middle-aged working types with a family to cater to, a job to dedicate themselves to and little real free time. An urge to find power. Big cars. Big knives. Loud engine, powerful engine. Thick spines, long blades and plenty of heft for some good chopping. Something to do with feeling too held down in the grasp of society and its demands, wanting a carnal release. Hrmm.

I have to admit to being a knife addict also. I don't have anything that would be termed as "crap". Most of my knives are middle of the road, (swamprats, scrapyard, benchmade, spyderco, entrek, ontario, etc). I have well in excess of 100 knives.....I still haven't found "the one". I think I have found it then I see something and say to myself "Self, I bet that would be better at "X" than what I have now....better buy it". Then there are the times I see something and say "I don't know what I'm gonna do with it, but I gotta have it". I have been trying to get something on the Busse ganzas, but have been beaten to the trough by all the hogs.......When I finally do score, I am sure my obsession will reach new, much more expensive, heights.

everyone spends their money on something. i buy knives and guns. got a friend who buys 100.00 t shirts, i know a girl who buys 1500.00 purses. cadillac taste goes far beyond usefulness. i never begrudge anyone who buys expensive toys.

got another friend who couldn't believe i could spend 600.00 on a knife. "what does it do? drive you to work?". this coming from a guy who has a 200,000 boat. HA!

I would stop lending my knives to ignorant cheap knife guy. He obviously knows his knives suck if he does not even use them.

I guess that makes him not so ignorant, just a cheapskate.

Make him use his Frost Cutlery knives.
