How cool is Benchmite?

I'm in need of a Benchmade fix. I could pick up a benchmite right now or save a bit more for a 710.

I kind of wanted to get the 710 for a worker but damn. I don't really feel like waiting. And if the 310 owners think benchmites are really cool. I might have to pick that up instead, I always thought the 310 was a cool design.

EDIT: Does anyone know the blade thickness for the 310? BM website lists 0.084" about 1/12? Is that right?

The 310 is cool for a keychain or change pocket knife (be careful though, as it's so thin you're likely to wash it if you forget it's there). Thin/small enough to stick in your wallet too. The blade is very utilitarian and slices very nicely. The thickness you mention sounds about right.

However, this is a very small knife. Vastly different than the 710.

If you want to own a Benchmade simply to own a Benchmade, might I instead suggest the 3100. It's the automatic version. Not legal to carry in HI, but it's a fun knife, and great to keep around the desk for mail and such, and as a knifesturbation toy. I have the 3100 with the rainbow anodization, and even though I rarely carry it, it's one of my favorites.

The 310 goes nicely around the neck too because it's nice and light and flat. That fact that it locks in the closed position make in nice for a neck lanyard folder too IMO. I am quite fond of the 310.

The Benchmite IS a really cool knife!! I had one. I kept it in my front pocket "city money" wallet. And it sat in there quite nicely. Besides, it kept my Atwood PryBaby company. I have since sold it. (along with a bunch of other knives.) But, yes it is a cool little knife! I really dig the auto Benchmite myself.

I've played with a couple and they were quite fun. If I needed a very small knife, this would be high on the list. The levitator mechanism is really interesting and works well. I've only used the automatic version of this. Even though it is illegal in a lot of places, I'm wondering if any officer would care or notice that your ridiculously tiny knife was automatic. Good craftsmanship....though if Benchmade insists on S30V prices, I insist on S30V steel. Too expensive.

Otherwise, very good looking, very cool, something you can carry to more sensitive places, I'd imagine.

My 3100 is a blast to play with. I am very happy with the steel and grind, nice lines.
Its a lot of knife in a small paackage.

I have always liked the looks of this knife, but have heard the Auto version is not as handy as the Manual. I will wait until I can handle one before I buy though as it is such a small blade.

It's a great little knife. The auto version is a bit of a pain to open, but it's pretty and small and it came razor sharp out of the box. Fits well in the hand for such a small knife. I'd still save for the 710, though.

I have a regular 310, a Damascus 310, and a 3100. I am eagerly awaiting the new red line benchmites that should be out soon. For $30 each I am going to buy a bunch as gifts and maybe have them engraved. I put a clip on my 310 and I carry it at college, it's a great "PC" edc knife.

Could you perhaps give a link to more info on these red-liners? ;)
