hi, everyone this is my first posting here and i was wondering how corrosion resistant is zdp 189?

I would like to know this too as I live on the coast. I noticed it has a very high carbon content, so it probably is not great at corrosion resistance, but I'm not sure since I don't have any blades in this material.

It's nowhere near a traditional stainless like 440c etc., but it is pretty good when you consider it has 3% carbon. I've noticed some slight spotting on my delica and caly jr's but it doesn't seem major. It usually comes comes off real easy by rubbing it with a paper towel. I keep the ones I am not using, as I do all of my knives, oiled.

It does have 20% chromium, should be pretty stain...less
Cheers,

It does, but most of the chromium is tied up in carbides, which makes it not as corrosion resistant as the 20% would make you think.

thanks for the reply, i usually clean my blade once a day with a jewelers polishing cloth. do you think that is enough along with oiling the piviot and lock area.

Unless you live in an really humid environment, I'd say that's too much care for a stainless steel. Really, does the knife serve you or do you serve it?

well the knife serves me I just don't like having a dirty blade I only oil it when it starts to stick or if I had to clean it from it getting real dirty but I do like a shiny blade.
