Hello, someone could help me, please? I try to have all the X-42 recondo models made by SOG.
I only know 2 for sure : the normal one with the bead-blasted blade RFB81 and the black tini one TRFB82. Both with the same kydex sheath.
I just found an auction on ebay (object number 120136692343 ) with a satin finish blade !!! is it possible???
Also, is it possible that the kydex sheaths was made differently through the years??? Mine don't have a "sog" engraved in the kydex sheath but on this auction, it's quite different!!!

I don't know about fakes, but I will help point out one Huge problem with the auction; The description is for a Field Pup, not for the pictured X-42 Recondo. The sheath looks like the last sheath used on the Recondo before it was discontinued. I'm pretty sure they had a different style sheath for that knife when it first came out.

Either way, the Recondo is a cool knife. :)

I know the SOG folders in BG42 came in two different RC numbers. RC62 and RC 60. I was told they dropped the BG42's hardness down due to tip breakage, I have no way to find out if it's true. This opens the possibility the Recondo may have two different RC's stamped on it like the folders depending if there was more than one run made, which I assume there was. I do have both RC number folders and know this to be a fact, that the two numbers exist. IRC, the RC60 knifes are the only one that I've seen blackened. Last I checked the SOG company store had a few of the small sized, black ones hidden away in back. Joe

As Heber said there are a couple problems with that listing.

The description is all wrong, they took the description from the Field Pup. The knife looks like and is a X-42 Recondo, which we did make with a satin finish.

As for the sheath, I am not sure if that is in fact a Recondo sheath. It looks like a Daggert sheath, but the Recondo might just fit in that sheath.

My advice would just be aware that the sheath might not be correct, but other wise the knife looks good.

Thank you guys for your help. It's amazing what you can learn in a forum!! I'm a little more aware of some specifications now. 3 blades finish ! bead blasted, black tini , satin finish. Don't tell me that there are two steels like the field knife ( BG-42 and S30V) !!!!! As for the ebay auction, I let it down ... too much mistake in it . Bah ! I'm already happy, :) I won the recondo black tini a couple days ago.
Now, the hunt begin for the satin finish... yep.

Not sure on model numbers. I'm a bit lazy. From memory and I may be corrected.

Recondo was BG42 and later S30V, always satin.
Recondo also came in black type finish - again, BG42 and later S30V
Field knife (similar) was always satin and the the two mentioned steel types as well. (not the newer Field Pup btw).

That makes 6 you need.

You are partially correct.

We never had the Recondo in S30V and black TiNi. When we switched to S30V we only had the satin finish version.

We did have some in BG-42 that were bead blasted but not very many. The vast majority of them were satin finish.

Thanks for making me clearer. Good man.
Drop one (Black Tini in S30V) and add one (Bead blast in BG42, sounds rare).
Thanks again.

After much hunting the web, and haunting local sporting goods stores, I finally found one. NIB, and just beautiful. The model is RFB81-X42 Recondo. I don't know if this one would be considered rare or not, but no matter-this one is definitely a keeper. More than likely, end up being a safe queen. Fits my hand like it was custom made for me. And the lanyard hole/skull buster is a very nice touch. Very impressive indeed. Now to continue the search.
