Story (well, allegedly, anyway - more of a tragic joke than actual reporting)

Believe it or not, this is from a reporter quoting an LAPD DEPUTY POLICE CHIEF:

...Authorities have noticed an increase in high-caliber weapons in Los Angeles. One of the most startling incidents was when a Fabrique National 57, an assault pistol used to kill big game, was found in a victim's car by detectives investigating a double-homicide last year in North Hollywood.

"You use it on large lions, tigers and bears," said LAPD Deputy Chief Michel Moore, commander of the Valley Bureau.
...
Really? The .22 caliber FN FiveseveN round is suitable for large, dangerous game? You guys in Kalifornia better watch out: If this particular Deputy Police Chief figures out how tough and sharp your Busses are, they'll probably have them re-classified as "deadly assault bayonet machete swords." If you possess one they might put you on a list as a homegrown terrorist bent on world domination.

Lions, Tigers, and Bears?

Oh my! :p

with a .22 caliber to boot!

California newspapers are funny.

Just read Animal Farm and 1984 and save yourself a lot of time.

I was laughing about this on arfcom. It'll pierce right through a brontosaurus wearing body armor, kill a cop and then blow up a school.

....or it's an overpriced round thats effectiveness pales in comparison many other rounds. I still want an SBR ps90 though.

I had to leave a comment on that one. That tool of a deputy police chief is a moron.

I love 5.7. For lions and bears I think I'd go with something else.Your 30-30 will probably do better in those situations.

Well, California needs something to repel the coming Texas invasion. I kinda thought Texas was half-way across the country, but apparently it's been sneaking up on the west coast:

"Assault weapons are illegal in California. But they are legally sold in several nearby states, including Arizona, Nevada and Texas."

It's a small world after all, its a small world after all! :D

I'm going lion, tiger, and bear hunting around the corner in Montana next week. :p

No, that's TV, the internet is full of reverse truths, its bizarro world.

that is the reason I bought my FN5-7 last year, it is only a matter of time before they find a reason to ban it out here. That said, it is a hell of a fun pistol to shoot

it's Ca what do you expect, you can get a ticket for putting an aftermarket air filter on your car...

What's an "assault pistol"? I don't think I've ever heard that one before. If a 5-7 qualifies as an uber-lethal anti-hippopotamus weapon, I wonder what that guy would think of a Glock 21? 14 rounds of .45ACP? Oy vey!

Thats funny.

Also, I thought that the only civilian-available ammo for this weapon was underpowered compared to what it was suposed to shoot.

It really is time to seperate the state into north/south. I feel bad not only for those in southern california, but especialy those in northern california who have to deal with the BS that bubbles up to them.

I only have one 5.7. I'm pretty sure this one ain't cali legal.
