Guess I'll start with me:

I first saw a balisong knife in the movie "Face off" a couple of years ago. Then I bought a cheap balisong knive last summer.... when I were on holiday in spain.

Since i didn't know anybody else who were manipulating balis, I had to practice and learn everything on my own. At first I just played with it.... getting to know it.... then some months later, I were surfing around the Internet and I came over Clay's page. Now I'm learning the manipulations on his page (which I think is really great) :)

Have only had this as a hobby for a year now, so I'm not very good at it.....YET ;)

I just completed my first year and I have down about all of the advanced moves. catch up! ;) j/k.

I do actually know exactly how I got into bali's. I stumbled onto clay's site (how I got there though, is a completely different story ;)

I am a martial artist. So naturaully it was only a matter of time for a knife like the balisong to catch my eye. I've been flipping since Memorial Day last year.:)

haha i havent even started manipulating yet.. haha ive wanted a bali since i was umm 14.. im 16 now turning 17 soon... i ordered my FIRST bali off the net from knifezilla... but as most of you know already... it was confiscated and now i STILL dont have one :( yea.. im pretty mad bout it... cuz i really want one and ive been waiting sooooo )(#$*@ long! >_<

When I was about 10 or 11 my parents bought me a Valor Camo Bali that I still have, and just fell into it. I watched Bruce Lee, and other Martial Arts movies with my older brothers and just took an interest in the weapons used.

I bought a Taylor when I was about 10 from Cutlery World (remember them) at the local mall and the book, Manipulation Manual for the Balisong. I remember slicing my leg open while flipping and watching TV at the same time. It was then that I discovered taping the blade.

I was given a bali about... er... 5 years ago and I've been flippin' ever since (well, not constently... A fella's gotta sleep ;))

was lookin around at the chesapeak knife and tool shop at the local mall. and happened to see one. the guy behind the counter saw my interest init and started flippin it around. from watching this i knew i had to have one. so i bought it and havn't put it down since.

I think it was in 1988... I was 13 and had just started karate.
At that time I loved the Canon Group ninja movies :-) and when I saw Michael Dudikoff flipping a bali in the first scene of American Ninja (aka American Warrior), I was fascinated.
Then I bought a small Herbertz, practised but without support (so my techniques were very limited). Later I managed to buy Imada's books, and the passion became stronger. After a year or two I almost stopped (studies, karate...): well I still bought a bali from time to time and play a little, but it was by period. And recently I re-fall in love and discover the web community. it's encouraging to see that there's really something in this knife. Thanks to balisong.net, I discovered also that French people like the balisong. I hope to make it more famous here.

I saw the Bali bit in Falling Down, then a while later I found Balisongxtreme. I then found a dealer who would let me have one and the rest as they say is history.

Hei gutten, välkommen till Bladeforums :)

I saw one that a friend had when i was around 10-11 and knew that i had to have one, always carried/carry knives and this promised to be too much fun to miss :)
Some time later i got myself the infamous Hackman plastic handle bali and used that one 'til i got my first real one.
It's been on and off, but never completly forgotten, but here i am at the age of 29 with roughly 18 years of flipping, i ain't stoppin'... :)

First bali I saw was in "Action Jackson", next time was "Falling Down", then "Face/Off" I bought a Jag one summer, beat it to death, bought another one, beat it to death, and am now waiting for a BM-42 from my friendly neighborhood gun shop. I caught Clay's site shortly after I bought the first Jag, and learned some of the basic moves, and some of the Intermediate ones (yeah, I know, the slow type... ). When I get the 42, I plan to learn all of the moves.
My next project, though, is to start a collection. For a first collector's piece, would a BM-45 factory 2nd knife be a good choice? :D :D :D

I started with a Taylor/Seto "Dragon Claw" (chrome handles) I ordered from Dolan's Sports, back in 1985. I then purchased a six inch brass handle T/S "Dragon" from Dolan's. After this I got a Frost SS with brass liners and a couple of more from Cutlery World.

I saw clay's website with some of those twirl techiniques, and Iw as like, wow, that is a lot cooler than any of my switches. So I bought a jaguar and started learning. I might be the only one that thinks this, but those techniques aren't really categorized that well. Like the basic twirls were a lot harder(still can't figure out how to close them) than the static and motion throws.Anyway, here I am three days later witha busted pin on my jag, looking to buy either a monarch or a b42. By the way, someone suggested naming your bali when you are upset with it? That didn't work too well. Sure, bitey has a nice ring, but I just don't see it as a long term name.

My friend's brother had one back in high school. It was a POS, handles more plastic than metal, blade that might snap if I used it to butter toast, but it was fun! I've wanted to get one of my own for the longest time and finally took the plunge last month.

Looking back, I wonder how that knife ever held up to our abuse.

Ive had a little plastic toy one since i was like 5, i threw it in a box the day i got it and never touched it again. While were were moving(7 years later) i picked it up, unlatched it, when i couldnt open it was two hands(it was stuck shut) i thought if i flicked my wrist it would maybe flip out, it went flying out, and from there i thought two mor flips of the wrist and it would be open, volia! My first opening. I threw it back in the box, and moved it. After moving yet again(2 years later) i found it again, did the same opening, and told myself i was gonna buy a jag at the gun and knife show i was heading to that weekend....this was 6 months ago, i repinned it my first week i had it, and it still holds up pretty nice. Im buying a 42 when i find some cash.

I had always known what a "butterfly knife" was, so I never had any real introduction. I bought a balisong comb at some stand at our town's Memorial Day celebration. I thought it was pretty cool so I bought my first real one, a China Cheapie, at a gun show. After becoming sick of the one opening I knew, I put it in a drawer for a couple months. Last summer I decided I wanted to learn new openings for it, so I looked online... and stumbled across Clay's site. Sadly, my cheapie's handle snapped after about a month of abuse so I went back to my trusty old comb. I got a 42 for Christmas, and have been happily flipping it ever since.

ARGH! All you people with your plastic balis!!! Does anyone here know how infinitely hard it is to find a plastic bali around here?!? IT'S IMPOSSIBLE!!!!
I got my now-ex girlfriend into flipping, and we both wanted something we could flip in public, or hidden from people at school. So we went to Wal-Mart, then K-Mart, then kay-bee toyworks, then the mall, then toys r' us, then the other mall, then the other toys r' us, then the other wal-mart, then the other OTHER wal-mart, then Ames, then another ames, the nashua flea market, the hollis flea market, online, the boardwalk at the beach, EVERYWHERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
so if anyone- ANYONE can hook me up with two of these, PLEASE let me know. rant over ;)

I actually wanted to throw in that I got her into bali's too. I fileworked a jag for her, but then she lost it :p. Figures, ya' know?

When I was uuuhhhh real little my neibor had one of those Korean models and it caught my attention but i lost interest. years later I started collecting knives and just had to have a switch and balisong. The 2 knives the law seemed to hate the most. Almost 3 years now and i only know about 4 or 5 openings but I do have them down pact. One is a throw:rolleyes: . Anyway i only learned the openings I needed for use and some play
