Hey guys, I just bought a couple Schrade Olt Timers off of an auction site. One is a Schrade Walden 34OT, and the other is a Schrade 108OT (U.S. made). The both have some use, but not cracks, chips, ect. I got them for 35.00. I was wondering if this was a decent deal. I'll be happy with the regardless since they will get used regularly.

BTW, if this is against the rules, please delete the post. Thanks.

You're good and I think you made a good purchase. There is some sellers that think because Schrade USA is gone, that the knives are automatically worth 6 times what they sold for when they were in production. Schrades are good knives; they are all I had when I was younger and I still have and use Schrades now. Pop some pictures in here so we can ogle them. - Ed

Thanks. I had always wanted to give a Schrade a shot, and when a guy I work with brought in his 34OT for me to sharpen for him, I was impressed with it. It just seems like a great working knife. I'll be sure to put up some pics once I recieve the knives. Thanks.

It's not against the rules (per se) to mention your (perceived) good fortune but we prefer to discuss the knives (rather than the process of acquiring them and the prices paid) here in this forum.

Bernard Levine's forum is more suited for discussion from the perspective of identification, valuation and other nuances of collecting.

So if we can keep the commercial aspects of the hobby to a very bare minimum here in this forum then we can all be happy. (When in doubt just check the guidelines or shoot me or Gus an email or PM.)

Not a problem. I wouldn't really call it perseved good fortune. I'm not looking to make any money off of them or anything like that, I just was curious as to whether or not it was a good deal. Like I said, they're going to get used anyway, but no one wants to overpay for something.

I mention "perceived" because I have no idea of the value of the knives mentioned and I've been at this long enough to realize that dollars and cents alone don't fully determine the value (personal or otherwise) of a given knife. At least that's so in my own particular case, anyway.

In the end it all comes down to perception and if we are satisfied with our new acquisitions. I certainly didn't think from your post that there was any intention to try to flip the knives for profit.

In keeping with forum guidelines, I'll not get into the 'deal' aspect. I will say, whatever you happened to pay, you've got a couple of good, solid knives now. I have an 8OT, 108OT and 25OT (all older USA made). I love 'em all. Great blades on 'em. Very pleasing in the hand, and satisfying to use & carry.

You've chosen some good ones, there.

Thanks man, I can't wait to get the 34OT and put it to use.

Hi,

Two of my favorite knives, the 108OT and 34OT. When I think of a pocket knife, I automatically think of a 34OT. And for me, the 108OT out "peanuts" the Peanut, if you understand my butchered statement.:)

And you are going to love the heat treatment of the Schrade 1095. They take an awesome edge and can hold it pretty well.

Now, you need to get an 8OT to fill out the family!

Dale

Great knives. The 34OT was the first knife I was able to freehand a scary edge on, so I developed a soft spot for them...

How about some photos of your purchase?
What you call had use...might be a real nice condition knife! :)
