I didn't even see this section until I already ordered my DE stuff.
So, how did I do?!

1 x Col. Ichabod Conk Bay-Rum Shaving Soap, Small (CC-143) = CAN$5.75
1 x Edwin Jagger Classic Double-Edge Safety Razor, Lined Chrome Plat (EJ-DE89L) = CAN$37.00
1 pack each of Dorco ST-301, Derby, Feather, Merkur, Astra Superior Platinum, 7AM Platinum Hi Stainless, and Sharp for 50 blades in total = $20
Plastic handle shaving brush no:7 CHEAP! at http://shop.bestshave.net/plastic-handle-shaving-brush-no7-p-80.html :\ I think I may need to get a better brush eventually.

I'd say that the brush is only thing questionable there. I don't know anything about it, but I would still expect to replace it at earliest convenience. You will need to round up a small (about 3.5 inch diameter) flat-bottomed bowl of some sort. And you're set to go. (You may wish to pick up a styptic pencil at the drug store too.)

What is your aftershave plan? It doesn't have to be exotic. I use a cold-water rinse and a slash of drugstore rubbing alcohol. But you do need something.

I was gonna use a little chinese rice bowl. Aftershave will just be nivea for men, till I run out anyways, then I will look for something less expensive. Is that what the old timers used? rubbing alcohol? That is inexpensive :)

That is pretty much exactly what I started out with after getting advise in this sub forum, except I already had a Omega 005 boar brush and some Poraso shaving soap. I did try the Col Conk Bay Rum soap and liked it a lot. It gave a nice rich lather and the scent was to die for. The only problem is I ended up having a sinus reaction to it, if I even went in to the bathroom my sinuses would block solid in 5 minutes:( I ended up giving it away and have still to find another Bay Rum soap that doesn't cause me the same problem.

I went with a blade sampler and found out that Feather and Derby blades don't work for me, but the Dorcos were my favorite till I tried Israeli Persona Reds. I still use the odd Dorco, but they are pretty much just my backup blade now.

!!!! shaved with the DE, it was very easy (first try it was probably as easy as the mach 3). I havent tried the soap yet (lacking the brush) but daaaaaamn. I'm so sticking with this for the long run. Definitely worth the initial investment.
Why did they even make 2/3/4/5 blade razor blades?
I took pictures but I'll wait till I get it all to post them

For a good cheap brush check out the Omega Pro boar bristle brushes. Longer bristles so they don't have that "scratchy" feeling so often associated with cheap boar. Whips up a good lather right quick, I can tell you. I have a red-handled one and it's my go-to user in spite of having a couple of nice badgers. It did take a while to lose the wet dog smell though.
