How did they do that?

Did anyone else notice on your ABLE that the guard holes have a geometric chamfer on them? It is very subtle. When I first noticed it, I thought it was a flaw or drill chatter, but close inspection shows it to be on both sides of both holes and to be very regular and precise, appearing to be deliberately done and too regular to be an accident. The holes are perfectly round and the chamfers are what looks to be about a ten-sided polygon. It is a nice touch. My DAB does not have these.

Since this is my first LE of any kind, is this a feature common to all LE's or just to the ABLE?

The feature is actually on the Active Duty as well. Only on the Active Duty they are perfectly round, and not polygons. I agree, nice touch.

Sorry, but I don't have a digital camera as of yet. Maybe someone else can post a picture.

I had not noticed the round chamfer on the AD before, but you are right. It is there.

I think the OD has them too, although I'm not totally sure what I'm looking for? ......Do you mean the small bevel on the inside of each hole?

The chamfer is the slight widening at the outside edge of the hole. It is round on the AD, and a polygon on the ABLE.

Dont get too excited, maybe that are only "rattle-marks" from the machining. I dont know the right name for that tool. If a drill is too long and the knive is not comletely clamped down this rattle marks happen through vibrations in the drilling process.
This happens often enough when I make a blade for myself.
If it looks good, the better. :D
I dont thinki it is made deliberately

If they are rattle marks, it seems that they would not be perfectly uniform, on both sides of the holes, with the holes perfectly round. Also, I have never seen another Busse with holes like this. I don't think that Jerry would let a knife like the ABLE out in public with rattle marks. In any case, it created a nice effect.

I noticed them the day I got my ABLE as well. They are definately not rattle marks, but I don't know if they were on purpose or not. They are so slight that I doubted they were a design feature. I don't have any great theories, but am interested in any info!

Hmmm... Not being able to see what you're talking about, so I'll just hazard a guess that it might be a broached area (we do something similar at work to put a hex-shaped hole for allen wrenches on the bearing innners)... Just my guess, and maybe totally off base... How about it, Jerry, what's the scoop???
