how did they fix the tuff lock problem ?

my brother says they changed the blade and it now is a bit lower on the rc scale is this true
thanks g

Well, mine was one of the first ones out there, and it has no lock problems.
As for any fix, lowering the blade hardness would do nothing either way.

If they changed anything, it would be the lock geometry, as in the steepness of the tang (I don't have the cash to get one of the newer versions...but I will gladly take one if someone feels the need to give it away :D).

ya he was saying that edge ret is not the same in the new ones ?
just thinking and is there a way to tell which one i have ?

there was lock probs and you could send it back in then a new one came back and some people are saying that the blade never held the edge the same again .....
the one i have was never sent in

Weird.
You never specified if yours has problems, or what the problem is.
Mine is an early one. No issues here.

I think you may have recieved some bad info. It is entirely possible but this is the first that I have heard of this. Can you link us to any info on this. I would like to see a verifiable source for this info or else I am gonna have to assume that "some people" are confused. You went from saying that your brother said the hardness was dropped to saying that "some people" experienced less edge retention. If you could be more specific than a vague run on sentence that would be great. This forum can often be a dumping ground for misinformation and anecdotal evidence. It would be great if we could clear this up.

Sal / other Spyderco folk are usually pretty easy to get ahold of around here/on the spyderco forums. Hopefully they can chime in. First I heard of this too.

I know people were worried about the lockbar travel on the Sage 2, and sal basically said that there is no issue he's heard of, but he'd replace it if there ever was one. Was the tuff issue similar, or was it an actual recall?

The Tuff has a replaceable lockbar insert.

it all on the internet i just cant find what they are doing to fix the problem that there was i am happy with my knife its great just would like to know the history so i can tell the grand kids when i pass it down to them lolololol

Some people claimed lock problems.
Some people claim lots of stuff though...

Spyderco did change something to address the likely non-existent problem though, as they are quite responsive to their customers. :)

i have never had to deal with spyderco cs but i have seen sal post many time on hear telling people how to deal with there problems so just by him taking time to do that cs must be great.
thanks g

I am confused...

You still haven't said what the problem was. All I can remember hearing was that the locks were stiff and challenging to disengage. I haven't heard of any common failures. If all you want to know is if Spyderco lowered the hardness of the blade to increase the lock strength I would comfortably say that that sounds a little far fetched. I don't work for Spyderco though so I cannot say for sure. It sounds like you aren't even sure what you know. Sounds like a bunch of hearsay to me.

Some people cpmplained that the lock failed when doing spine-whacks.
Other people said they had no issues with that.

Something apparently was changed, and people seemed to stop whining about spine-whack disengagement.
It won't have involved lowering blade hardness though, as that would do absolutely nothing.

Reportedly the newer ones are easier to unlock.

Hopefully someone with a newer model and a high-resolution camera will post pics of the lock area.
