I Manage to put a serious dent in my short list. Additions included a SIFU, and the last available copy of the Bladeforums Blue Native. Alot of fun all around. Even managed to find a Randall Sasquach furnished to match some of my other Randalls.

How did the rest of you do?

It was even better than last year. My collecting tastes have changed significantly over the last year. Last year I only looked at “tactical” folders. This year I spent the majority of my time in the ABS section. The knives were great. The makers were great. The collectors were great. It doesn't get any better than that. Here's what I got:

Ed Caffrey “Prairie Storm” – 10 ¼” blade, 17 ½” overall, 15.5 ounces. 52100 core with 15N20 and 1084 damascus. Carved ebony handle. Fileworked wrought iron guard and buttcap. The knife is magnificent. It’s unbelievable light for it’s size. Ed received his Mastersmith stamp at this show, so getting this knife is extra special.

Audra Draper Mini-Dagger – 2 ½” double-ground, double-edged 15N20 and 1084 damascus blade. 5 ¼” overall. Fossilized bark mammoth ivory with an elephant ivory spacer and brass guard. Audra also received her MS stamp at the show. This little knife was the big hit with other forumites. Audra and Mike were wonderful folks with some serious bladesmithing talent between them.

Herb Derr Damascus drop point – This was my “steal” of the show. Herb forges his own damascus out of 01, L6, and nickel. The blade is 2 5/8” long with an OAL of 5 7/8”. This knife has 2700 layers and was hot blued. The bluing actually gives a bronze color to the blade that’s beautiful. There is filework all around. The handles are buffalo horn. The sheath is rattlesnake. This one was only $130. Herb will definitely do more work for me in the future.

Alan Folts NCKK – This knife was only made for a few of the NC Knife Knuts. Mine is #3. It’s got a 4” mirror-finished ATS-34 blade with a false top edge, and is 8 ½” long overall. It has carbon fiber handles with blue anodized spacers. With the single finger groove, rounded hadle contours, and perfectly located thumb ramp this knife fits my hand better than any other knife I own. Alan nailed the ergonomics on this one. It came with a fantastic multi-position kydex rig as well.

Kit Carson Small Model 16 – After having bought a slew of M4’s, I thought it was time to get an M16. This is the small model with a 3.5” 440V blade. What else can I say that hasn’t already been said about Kit’s knives? Nobody builds a better folder than Kit.

I had a great time at the Show. It is very easy to go broke in a place like that. My photography skills are minimal, but here is a link to pictures:

Here's my list:

Dan Burke wharncliff half whittler in D2 and utica bone. This was ordered before the show and is my second from Dan. He is a pleasure to work with.

Richard Rogers 2 5/8" single blade slip joint with ivory scales. I also got a braided sterling silver braclet for my wife from Richard. This went over really well.

Larry Connelley and Knifeart.com prototype Advocate made by Andre' de Villiers. This one is made with ATS-34. It is a big knife that is extremely comfortable in the hand and fells very durable. It kind of reminds me of my large sebenza.

Harvey King 2 1/2" skinner in D2 and stag handles. This is a neat little knife that is nice looking and extremely tough.

Chris Reeve's 2000 UMFAAN. This one has the polished blade.

Microtech's mini socom auto with polished blade. It is not ground and polished by Brend.

An old wharncliff half whittler from Cox and Co. of Sheffield, England.

I also placed custom orders with: Dan Burke, Tony Bose, Reese Bose, Richard Rogers, and Bailey Bradshaw. Waiting time on some of these is quite long.
Later, I had a great time playing with the new Greg Lightfoot LCC auto from Microtech. This thing is very smooth. Microtech fans will olve it.

You guys did alright. I got started later than I'd like to have on Saturday and couldn't find anything in my price range that I just had to have. So I decided to save my money and make the trip next year. This was my first show and my eyes were really opened by the custom knives and the makers. Being a new "addict", it's hard to think about letting go of so much money, even though each piece is a treasure. I also still have a lot to learn.

Cheers!

Great show, great people.

I got:

Rob Simonich "Pikuni" Neck Knife in D2.

Flavio Ikoma Tanto, Daryl Meier Damascus, Ebony and Silver Fittings, Mosaic Pin, Brazilian Pine Saya.

Zaza Revishvili/Keith Kilby Persian Style Dagger. Kilby made the damascus blade, and Zaza his remarkable silver filigree/garnet handle and scabbard.

Pix of the knives are on my photopoint site, the link is down below my sig.
