How did you do in 2013 against your "wish list" for the year?

I was looking at some threads from early last year this morning and looking for this one in particular:

in which I made this list of things I wanted to buy:

A toothpick. Might be a Case or a Queen/Schatt, GEC or some other brand.
A GEC conductor
A GEC white owl with clip blade
A slimline trapper
A Queen #51 jack
A GEC #66 jack
A single blade GEC 74 if they make one.
Probably a peanut
Maybe a 250A Silver Knight in the checkered Kraton if I can find one.

Out of those I obtained only the following:

A GEC toothpick.

given away in December.

Picked up another peanut in Leghog's give away:

A used 250A Silver Knight in the checkered Kraton.

So the score is 4 of 9. I did pick up several Barlows, 92s, and boy's knives that weren't on the list. I'm not disappointed, but as a blueprint for my purchases, that list didn't work real well for me last year.

How about you folks?

Pretty darn good I'd say...

Right now, I'm sure I'm getting some 440c #68 White Owls and probably at least one #06 Pemberton. Hopefully I'll be able to add to my #48 collection with some 440c Jacks and #48 Jacks with slender clip blades. Probably add to my GEC collection in general.

I'm on a few lists that I hope my name comes up this year too.

Got the #68s and now the jacks sound interesting... maybe just one... Mike's #85s were unexpected but they made it on the list as did the #92s. More GECs probably still to come along with the 2013 forum knife and the Case/Bose WT to come later this year.

Well 2013 went well on the Knife Front.

Got the Houndstooth Wharncliffe, fine carry
Ditto another LinerLock SFO 85 from the Exchange
Stainless White Owl, Trand helped with the shipping thanks.
NO CASE knife interested me at all, that was a disappointment, but this year I want the Teardrop when it goes on sale.
Queen provided no new releases of any sort but I did get a couple of items from current stock, and very good too.
Chambriard in Ebony not Juniper BUT TRAGEDY kicked in, LOST the stag handled version in some hotel aaaaaarghhh!:barf:
No Fontenille-Pataud but I got an Ohta that is fantastic.

Most of the knives I got were other than on the list but a very good load actually.:thumbup:

Too well, I bought/traded into too much. Sold/traded some Striders, which killed me, for custom slipjoints that I should have kept. Yep, I let those go. Vicious cycle. Right now, I'm into a Sardinian folder , a puukko with a Polaris handle from Scott Gossman (traditional!), and trying my darndest not to buy a Viper until I have the Pattada and Gossman paid off.

Lists don't mean a whole lot to me. I might very well respond to a thread like that, but often I just buy or acquire what interests me at the time. For example, I didn't know about the Northwoods Madison's and early this year purchased several. Picked up a Charlow barlow which was totally unplanned.

A Canal Street Trapper was totally unplanned for last year. Looked at one and bought it.

Last year, I don't really recall what I had on my "list". I did acquire a fair number (for me) of knives in 2013.

I had no list last year and ended up buying a lot of knives. I have no list this year and have only bought 1 knife so far, with no current plans to add any more.

Willgoy, I hope you can get some relief on that insomnia. It can really mess you up when you can't get the sleep your body needs.

There have been some interesting replies here so far. About, the kind of thing I expected to see. I hope others will chime in that put together a list for the thread and let us know what they bought that was on their list. Those TC Barlows/Charlows and the boy's knives were a big distraction to me relative to my list. I still have a couple of knives on my 2013 list above that I still want, but a couple have dropped off.

My best acquisition was an Ontario RAT stockman with punch in Ram horn, and the forum knife. Other than that I don't have many lists, just keep on collecting until I have representative samples of every type of knife, manufacturers and blade shapes. That's all!!

I didn't really have a list in mind last year. I'm pretty content with what I've got right now (thank god) so a knife has to be pretty special to get my wallet out these days.

2013 brought me 2 new traditionals:
one J. Oeser custom
and one GEC Whittler

A great year for knives, I love them both.

If I'd have just stuck with my list, I'd already have had them all considering the number of knives I've bought this year, but no, I'm too easily distracted it seems. I am happy with the knives I've bought, but they weren't on the list. And this is them:

was going to look for a gec 66 in ebony scales if i had the chance. didnt happen

wait! i found my post:

well the wife and i agreed after my last purchase (case texas jack back in september) it would be the last knife i buy for awhile...and apparently awhile means at least a year (bad negotiating on my part, i didnt realize what i was agreeing too )

but for 2013 i would LIKE to eventually get a GEC #66 ebony jack and probably a case full sized trapper in cv
at least i got till like september to save up some $$

I DID get a full size trapper in CV
so 1 outta 2 or 50%

I didn't have anything particular on my list but did acquire a carbon steel stockman with bone covers in the GEC 81. 1 thing on my "list" is being carried over to 2014, a small sized traditional fixed blade.
