A question that ought to bring out some interesting answers...

How did you first find your way to the HI forum?

Here's my story:

I have known about khukuris for long time before joining bladeforums. Prior to coming here, I spent most of my time in the custom knives forums, blade discussion, community center, and only occasionally browsed other forums.

Then one day, someone posed a question: Who has the most posts?

That's when I first heard about Uncle Bill, as well as the Phantom thread.

I thought, "What kind of nuthouse is this anyway?".

I lurked for a while, waiting for the newbie-itis to dry up & fall off, then jumped out of nowhere and bought a BAS.

It's been a downhill ride since...

I've told my story, now what's your excuse?!?

Lurking for while ,searching for a good travel /outdoors blade that could pull duty as a combat blade without failure:) Got hooked on THE CONTIGUING SAGA of The Phantom......hee hee. loved the company and fellowship.Bought one ,then another,an another then a bunch:D

an exmarine buddy of mine, Ibear, (no relation to Abear) always talked about what he'd like to do to a terrorist with a 12" Buck knife. I teased him about, "big honkin killer knives' but became interested, having never owned a large blade. I ended up with a camilus military spec fighting knife and later a kabar tanto. They've sat around the house. While researching the German eye knives on blade forum I looked into khukuri's out of curiousity. Had no intention of getting one.

As I recall Spark called me and offered space for the HI Forum and after thinking it over for a couple of weeks I decided to go for it.

I really had conmsidered buying one of the things that Cold Steel sells, but I tried to find some more info about them before spending $200+ for a knife. I knew about the so-called unbeatable CarbonV steel. That was not my only concern. I have had knives with the rubber handles that just about took the skin off the inside of my hand.
I checked with Google and found a forum with guys talking about khuks. Most of them seemed to think that Gurkha House was the best place to buy.
Then I read far enough to see where a gent told another one if he really wanted a good world war 11 model, get in touch with Bill Martino of Himalayan Imports. The man said that not only were the blades very high quality, but the service is outstanding. The knives are also backed for life.
That sounded good to me so I started digging and finally found this forum. I was glad then and I sure am yet.I've got some domned good knives and the price though a bit much for my fixed income; I'm not going to complain at all. Even the look of the knives compared with other khuks won my vote hands down.

I would not understand anyone who thought that they didn't get their moneys worth at HI. If anyone knows of a place that sells a better knife for the very modest prices that HI has on these Hand Made pieces of Perfection please let me know. I don't think I'll hold my breath waiting.

Any way that is how it happened and now I've got six of these beautiful things and still not complaining. Some times at night I just sit and marvel at these amazing tools. After the use that they have been put to, I would stake my life on their dependability, any one of them.:)

I don't remember!:( You really don't want to know)! This "one" time in my whole life I'm innocent!:rolleyes:Just say it started with Ray about 15yrs. ago! &

I just kind of surfed in while searching for khukuris and liked the place. I do a lot of web surfing and this place is unique in my experience. Not much meaness present here like in many other places.

I was lookin' on the internet for a usable katana that wasn't made of stainless steel. I browsed the forums for reviews and also read about the khuks at the same time. I have a couple of Cold Steel kuks so it was interesting reading about the cutting performance. Yvsa gave greetings to all those people lurking about not posting messages and I responded. Now I have almost 800 posts of pure drivel under my belt :) and a few khuks to boot. :D

Bill sent me.

I heard about HI back in the early '90s in either the American Rifleman, or Field and Stream (I don't recall which). This was pre-Net, and e-mail was largely non-existant.

I dropped Bill a note, and he sent some pics (all snail-mail). I was looking for a quality, MA-oriented blade and had my eye on a 20" Sirupati. However, as a grad student, I couldn't muster up the bucks, so I let it drop.

Jump forward in time about 10 years.

I was surfing the web, searching on SE Asian weapons. I came across Federico's Moro Blade site and from there saw a link that led to the HI site. I immediately recognized the HI name, and made the jump.

10 years later, I ordered that 20" Sirupati.

Just one question of ya Bruise. Tell me true, have you ever really been sory that you bought that first Khuk? (except for being broke a time or two maybe):D

Speaking for myself Bruise, I look forward to your posts. They crack me up consistantly.

I was looking for a khuk. (Why I don't know) Originally thinking about a Cold Steel version. Anyway, I found BladeForum from GlockTalk site, and then HI. I lurked for awhile and liked the forumites (well, some of you anyway, not YOU jim the anti-saint who says i'm a SICKO! :) ) and Unnca Bill's business practices. So I bought some K's and am still looking for a M43. :D

How did I find the HI forum?

From HI's webpage, of course!
I surf mostly on dealer sites and custom knife and weaponmakers.
I czeched out the HI page, and wow, was I stunned to find such affordable and utilitarian knives. I called Uncle up, and he said he could cut me a deal on a blem 18" AK, so I bought it. After a few email correspondences, Uncle pointed me to the forum, where I observed postes for a while, then joined in! I just couldn't miss out on all the cool Sh17 you guys discuss. I had to get in and mix it up. Also, I liked that the forum was pretty open, and not just a sales area for HI. I like when people post pics and cool linx.

Thanks again, all, fer havin' me along fer the ride!

I hit HI website by using altavista, searching for info about "kukri". There I saw Ang Khola. Since then, 20" AK became my obsession for half year since then while struggling with customs.
Until I found HI, Nepali curved knife was a "kukri" for me, and CS was the ultimate and the toughest of the kind, compared to Indian cheap ones and Ontario's efforts.

Then I found HI forums here and in the "other" forums. It's always fun to read and post on HI forum as well as wielding and condling khukuris.

I've never regretted buying those CS khuks. They remain unused though. I bought the factory seconds cuz they was less expensive.

I'm glad some of you read my posts. I thought I was largely ignored. :) Now if I could only impress some young lady with my charm and wit. (see avatar) :(

:D

woods tool, back-pack tool, farm tool....Then, Cliff Stamp suggested
I check on HI khuks. Been here since.

ty Cliff.

We're all in this together

Heard periphally of HI, but at the time I figured a khuk was a khuk so I bought Gurkha House since they were cheaper. Then someone mentioned that HI might make a barong, and I started checking out these forums. Then I started noticing them UBDOTDs, and got my first HI khuk that way, and even though it was a blem knew instantly it was in a whole different level than Gurkha House. Never thought Id buy more than one khukri since my main collection habit is Filipino stuff, but as the guy who first taught me about knives said when I first showed him an HI khuk, that is some very good steel. :D Now if only I wasnt already in so much debt ;)

Must have been 10 or 12 years old when I saw a picture of a Gorkha vet with a khukuri. Spent a long time looking for a good one and 20+ years later wandered into the HI forums on a search via Google.

Now I've got khukuris of my own plus several megs of khukuri pics. All good things come to those who wait :D
