How did you procure your customs?

Just out of curiosity, I was wondering what the prevelant method of buying custom Emersons happened to be.

Did you guys get yours through the lottery, third party custom knife dealers, websites, certain forums, evil auction, something else?

While it's unlikely I'll ever have the disposable income to buy, let alone carry one, it'll be educational and interesting.

Please share!

Thx.

They all start out from a lottery purchase. Secondary market afterwards. The two I've bought both came from individual sellers on classified section of another forum.

Yup, I'm aware lottery is the origin. But given the odds compared with the amount I've seen some people own, I suspected secondary dealers as the primary source.

Thx.

A good friend didn't care for his Gentleman Jim and sold it to me for lottery price. Another friend sold me his Viper MV4. The only way I can see ever getting a 6 is via the lottery. Secondary for 6s is super expensive. Out of my league.

How many 5's and 6's does Ernie produce yearly these days?

Since its only 4 shows yearly now (2 virtual shows in the spring and Christmas, Blade and USN show) you could count on 4 CQC-5s a year and at least 4 CQC-6s but maybe up to 8 since Ernie sometimes has two 6s per lottery.

If you go to any knife show there are usually a couple specialists selling custom EKIs there. SoCal had a few knife collector shows each year.

I literally just bought a custom CQC-15. Obviously the best way to get one is through the lottery, but most of us will never get to attend a lottery. Also you aren't guaranteed to get the knife model you desire if you do happen to enter the lottery. The customs usually sell for about $1100/1300 on the secondary market from what I've seen. I know two good websites that usually have some and currently have a few Emerson customs in stock. I don't want to post the websites here, as they're my secret go to sources, lol!

You can email me and I'll share my sources with you if you're interested.

Also Knifecenter.com has two in stock right now, a CQC-11 and a CQC-12. Priced at bit high at $1395 each.
