The bug bit me when i was 8. In costco, my dad asks which set of knives looked the best to me for our kitchen. Ever since, ive had a sweet spot for Knives...Here, 6 years later, my delica is on the way, and before its even here im planning knives for the future. When did you get bitten by the knife bug? When did you start collecting? Id love to hear!

Cheers-
David

Walter Brend Bush Hog - bought from Walter at the NY Knife Show. I was 15 when I first saw it. My parents made me wait a year till I was 16 to buy it. $500 in 1989 Worth a lot more today.

For me it was Rambo, i wanted some big fixed blades that looked just as cool, then i grew out of that phase and started to learn more about knives and practicality and use from bladeforums and, eventually got into folders, I've learned alot since joining bladeforums.

My Grandfather had gave me a multi-tool from his motorcycle shop. I've always admired the tools. My first ever-ever knife was a Leatherman. The thing that got me back into knives was my uncles Sebenza.

My mom would confiscate any knife I had til I was 18. 11 years later and now my mom doesn't even react when I come over with a fixed blade on my belt.

who doesn't love knife/gun when young?
first quality knife is also the spyderco delica II

When i became a Cub Scout at around 7. I remember my Pop taking me to Penny's to get my Cub Scout uniform and hand book, there were several differant types of Scout knives there, i was hypnotized by them, My Dad told me that if i can save up enough money i could get one. Of course it only took me about 6 months of doing extra work, i saved and got one. I was satisfied with that old blue scout knife but when i was 12, My folks (er, Santa) brought me a new Buck fixed blade & i've been chasing that same new knife high ever since...

My dad and me at the Mercado (sorta flea-market) in Juarez, Mexico.
He bought himself a gorgeous hunting knife kinda like a cocobolo 119 sorta and got me a real switchblade with a SECRET AGENT logo on it.
Been hooked ever since.

I got my first knife at the age of 10, some kind of Victorinox SAK, probably a Huntsman and carried some kind of SAK since then. But I started collecting knives, SAKs and multitools only a few years ago. I wanted another knife and discovered the world of internet shops and trading sites like eBay and Marktplaats (a Dutch site). That gave me access to an overwhelming amount of knives, SAKs and multitools and that's probably how it started. And of course there must have been a love for these things somewhere inside me, but I wasn't aware of that until then.

I was given a toy razor out of a children's shaving kit, in day care, to (mock) fight monsters with. When I saw their (simulated) reaction to being cut, I knew I needed a real knife. Lucky for me, I lived in a small Alaskan village where it was completely normal for children to carry knives. I've pretty much been carrying one every since then.

I remember a flea market vendor refusing to sell me a "Nato Military" OTF auto because I was 13 (now in FL). A nice older man overheard this and was taken back by it. He was like "what kind of BS is that?!?! Its not a gun!" The vendor said it was the law and the old man said "gimme yer money" I did and he bought the knife for me. Not all old people suck :-)

My uncle gave me pipe tobacco when I was a kid.... made "cigars" out of three-hole notebook paper.... Oh, you're talking about knives.. :D

I always was around knives. My Dad always had a slip joint pocket knife in his pocket. I bought my first knife in the second grade after I started getting a weekly allowance. Cost me about two week's allowance.. $1.00. Nothing has really changed, but the price of the toys. Enjoy.

Got my 1st pocketknife from my Grandfather after I earned my Whittling Chip in Cub Scouts. Believe it was a Case Fisherman (Toothpick with a scaler). Finally I could cut my own string (or whatever) without getting someone to do it. The sense of responsibility & trust he imparted in the gift felt like a major accomplishment in my young (8 years old) life.

From there it was all downhill.

Hey everyone!

For me it started when I saw a friend playing team fortress 2 as the spy and the spy uses a butterfly knife so I decided I wanted one of those because it looked so cool, decided to first buy a cheapy to learn how to sharpen on with the help of youtube videos... .and it just got worse (not talking about my sharpening)

Where and when I grew up, men carried pocket knives. They just did. Father let me adopt one out of the tool drawer when I was somewhere between 6 and 8. It was an equal end jack if I remember correctly, had carbon steel blades, and was older than I was. That was about 50 years ago and I've been carrying and using them pretty much ever since.
