Just won a plain edged B/S/T off ebay, heat treated ats34 blade that was a trainer. No edge on it but I am going to put one on it with my Lansky. So how difficult will this be? Thanks and keepem sharp

Don't know what a "plain edged B/S/T" is but I'm going to take a wild guess and say you're going to spend a very long time reprofiliing the edge.

Once you establish the profile you want (using the rough stone), it should go fairly easily. Several years back, I purchased a set of Global steak knives....loved the knives, but did`nt like the micro-serrations, so I knocked them off and re-profiled the edges on my DMT diamond stone...*big* improvement.

I have no idea what a B/S/T is, acronyms...:grumpy:

If it's a trainer it might not be heat treated, if it isn't, you will be wasting your time, too soft. If it is heat treated I'd use a belt sander to rough it out, and finish it by hand using the sandpaper and a mouse-pad routine.

Edit: I overlooked the part about it being already heat treated, oops.

Here's a big acronym for a knife, HODDSFNOLE.

Buck/Strider/ Tarrani model of the knife, only in trainer form. ATS34 heat treated by BOS, blue scales, flamed liners very cool knife and I know it is sharpenable which I think the Lansky will handle with a Xtra Corse stone. thanks

I'm not familiar with the Lanksy sharpener, but I know with my 1000 grit water stone it would be fairly simple, unless there is no bevel at all then you need a belt grinder or stone wheel.

I don't know what a B/S/T trainer is either, but hope it has a primary grind - if it's just a slab of metal you wouldn't get much of a knife just by putting an edge on it.

Folks, its has a primary grind just no edge bevel, heat treated by BOS ats34 steel. thanks for the input keepem sharp

What? It works on puukkos and machetes.

I would guess youll have your hands full trying to get it sharp with a lansky you might get a edge but a edge that holds will be a different story. kellyw

I should have told you how i would do it and it would be good i have a 800 grit water stone ide ruff it up with that then switch to the granit oil stone 1000 grit then go to the 1500 oil stone and then buff with metal polish. I dont have my paper wheel but will soon and that would be the way ide finish the blade. kellyw

You all aren't reading the posts. It has a primary bevel, it is a tempered ats34(Rc59) blade, it has no edge bevel to speak of and a rounded over point. It will be more work than I thought but doable. thanks and keepem sharp

longbow,If you feel you are in over your head with this, you may want to consider sending it to richardj(above). He can put an edge on anything. He's got a lot of experience sharpening & a fast turn around time.

But,If you want to do it yourself with a lansky,I'm guessing it'll take pretty long.

longbow, you should definatley send your blade to richard j. he does a fantastic job, and is easy to reach and responds to emails promptly.

many others on here can attest to his wonderfully quality work sharpening with his paper wheels.
