How difficult will it be to remove the handle material from a LUM fixed blade tanto?

I have a few Spyderco LUM fixed blade tantos. I want to have a different handle material put on one of them. Does anyone know if the micarta is epoxied to the tang? Or, is it just pinned together?

I want to know if getting the handle material off will be more trouble than it is worth.

Thanks!

Must be epoxied.
I would sand it down on the beltgrinder, leaving just 1mm of micarta. Then remove this with file and sandpaper. Be careful when grinding, that the rods don´t get too hot. (Wear a mask, both the micarta and the epoxy is a no-no for the lungs)

I'm curious, what is the replacement material? Also, why don't you like the micarta?

I am curious if you had any luck removing the handle and if so what you replaced it with? Probably my biggest complaint with this knife & actually with a lot of knives being made nowdays is the use of the smooth micarta handles:mad: This just seems to me to be absolutely contra indicated for any sort of fighting or tactical knife as it is going to sliding out of your hand with the first drop of sweat or blood on it.
I really wish that Spyderco would provide other handle options for some of their knives as I do like their knives and they do manufacture several handle materials. I have the same complaint about their Massad Ayoob handle.

I haven't attempted to remove any of the micarta yet. I don't dis-like the micarta I just want to have bead blasted carbon fiber scales put on one. I think the carbon fiber would look really great. Bead blasted carbon fiber has a nice texture.

I'm still not sure if I want to tackle the micarta removal. Many production companies use very little epoxy so it might come right off.
