Just wondering what starts going on a 110 as it gets older.
Vertical or Horizontal blade play when locked?
Shrinking scales?
Gaps?
Lock not as secure as when new?
Inquiring minds want to know.
Feel free to post pix; only users though!
Thanks,
Lenny

I've never had one age and become bad,its either bad from the start or good to go from the start i have found.I have never seen a 110 with cracked scales, even my old 2 dots have perfect scales, and they have been used a lot and scrubbed and washed.Although i have had some 110's with sloppy blades, the lock up itself i have never had fail, and i took a 110 i had to the limits beeating on the lock etc,and it did not let go,even with a LOT of blade play, she didn't unlock on me.Under normal use i would say eventuially blade play would start first, side to side then vertical.

I agree, the 110s I've seen that were worn, the only issues I've seen was blade play. I mean I have seen 110s with a sliver of blade left and the only issue was blade play and of course the blade was worn. 110s are Tanks and even when abused hold up like no other knife on earth. Thats why they are the most copied style of knife in the world, and the best selling...

Take a 110.....and destroy it (or try to). You will find that it maintains itself as a usable tool much longer than expected.

I've been using them for nigh on 60 years and I ain't wore one out yet. Don't know if I can live long enough to do that. I'll have one of my sons report back in a few decades .

Purchased in 1976, still going strong

Lenny this knife is about 45 years old and was used hard, and will last another 45 years probably the dings and scratches the patina if this knife could only talk what a story it could tell it is truly a great knife and a testament to greater company . I think the old 110s just get better with time. Here is a picture of my user .

Wow, those usere look great.
Any play in them?
Keep posting pix of your users; the older and more beat up looking, the better.
I'm particularly interested in folks who use their Custom 110's regularly.

Hi Lenny,

Here is a shot of five old users, a few dings in the brass and some blade wear. These were all used as a knife should be and will out last most folks.

Now the knife below was a painters tool, worked hard and abused. Take a good look at the photo, not one spot on this knives frame/bolsters that was free from dings and hammer marks. This knife was used to pry open paint cans and broke off about 1/4" of tip, had both side to side and lock movement, as you can see the frame has opened a little (rivets are sunk in) from being used as a pry bar.

Now here is the same painters knife after a trip back to Buck for a SPA treatment....looks good as new! Blade was replaced and no more bad blade play at all:D.

jb4570,
Thanks, that's just what I'm looking for.
Amazing what a trip to the spa can do.
I don't feel bad using my 110 hard now.
One question though; where did you find a 110 with those beautiful red jigged bone scales?

howdy ther lenny!
glad to see you here at the buck forum ...
i got my first buck folding hunter in 1967 i was 15
and have owned countless ones sence that time..
currently i have over 350 in my collection

as to my experance with buck 110
yes sadly some have not lasted with out issues
( dayum few tho! )
the older ones pre 86 some some times would get wobble in the blade
some when you sharpened them a lot would have the point stick out of the frame
a very very few i have had the lock fail ...
not the blade part but on the back spring, the part that locks in to the blade would snap off
some times i have seen some post 86 with a bit of wobble in the blade or the blade not centered
BUT every one i had that i sent in was fixed !!!
as to quality it has inproved all along
with exception for the year after the move to post falls was anounced
thoes seemed to have a few issues -mostly with appearences and ariveing dirty
i have my favs
the 3 dots are my most fave
the pre 2n dot with the stright frame on its back side next
users: my fave is the newest ones out !

Here are my primary 110 users(along with a Tempest and Vantage)
