HOW DO BLADE SHOWS WORK ?

I will hopefully be coming to America for this years Blade Show and was just wondering how the purchase of knives works at these shows. Are they more of a showcase type thing or is there plenty available to buy as well ? If the latter, then do you just go to a manufacturers booth and choose something that you want to buy. Also, do they have much stock there available to buy. I will be particularly interested in looking at Chris Reeve's knives more specifically different flavours of Sebenza. Do you think that they will have different styles there available to buy ?

Another thing is accommodation. I will be paying for the flights over and then will need a cheap hotel to stay in. Do hotels in America have an age limit for rooms. I am asking as I will be 20 by June. There wont be any problems with my age will there.

Can anyone suggest hotels that I could try. Also, how much are they likely to cost ? Costing information is important so that I can budget.

I look forward to hearing your responses

JD

Llamedos,

There will be a huge number of knives available for purchase at the Blade Show.

Usually the production companies like Spyderco and Benchmade do not sell at the show because there are a large number of Dealers there. However, the Custom Makers are set up to sell their knives there. So, I don't know if CRK will be selling knives at the show or not.

Unfortunately, I do not have a lot of information on Hotels near the Show.

Yes, CRK's will be selling Sebenzas as well as their other knives at the Blade Show. Also, many of the dealers there also carry Sebenzas, so if your looking for a nice decorated this is a good place to get one.

You won't have any trouble renting a room. You may have trouble getting a Newcastle or Old Peculier though.

You will have trouble finding a CHEAP room...

My room at the hotel is almost as much per night as my plane ticket!

The Hampton Inn is located about 3 minutes away from the show's location - just on the other side of Cumberland Mall. My room rate last year was $59 per night, which is half of what the "official" hotel's (Renaissance Waverley) room rate is. A bunch of forumites will be staying at the Hampton again this year. Here's the contact info:

As Johnny said, CRK will be selling Sebenzas but I suggest you plan on getting to his table early for the best selection. At the couple of shows where I've seen Chris, the plain models seem to be the first to go.

I live in Atlanta, you have gotten good solid advise by the members here. Email me if I can be of any help. Won't be long for my favorite weekend of the year.

How the Blade show works:
1) meet a lot of really big name makers
2) meet a lot of extremely nice people with the same interest as you.
3)Spend a lot on knives.
4)Have as much fun as is possible and still be remaining dressed. (It`s as much fun as you can have with your clothes on)
5) spend the trip home trying to think up justifications to the spouse/signifigant other to explain all the sharp purchases.

Your mileage may vary. Please feel free to join the North Carolina Knife Knuts at the Hampton Inn, as senator mentioned above. The accent shouldn`t stand in the way of our communication. ( our accent, that is ;-)
For travel agendas pleases contact the NCKK Grand Poobah (senator) or myself.Hope to see you there.

Thanks for the great info so far. The Hampton Inn looks excellent and at the sort of price I was looking for.

Senator, would it be possible for you to email me with some extra info like when you're going, how I can book etc...

Thanks
