How do I acquire a sprint run knife?

After some searching on the forums, I cannot find an article that explains to newbies how to increase our chances of buying a sprint run knife from a dealer before the supply runs out. For example, now that I have a Spyderco PM2 in S30V steel, it would be cool to try it in other steels.

1) How do I get notified that a sprint run is coming, and get myself in line to purchase one before they are gone?

2) What about looking for one after the run is sold out? The 204P PM2 seems to be occasionally available in some older posts, but only at a premium, and only if you happen to spot the offer before ten thousand other people do. Assuming I'm willing to pay a premium for it, what would be acceptable methods to advertise the fact that I was looking for one?

Thanks,
"I can quit whenever I want."

Keep your eyes open and check the forums. There is usually some substantial hype before sprints are released with lots of discussions.

There are dealers that inform their followers on FB about the arrival of sprint runs.
Good luck hunting.

Thanks, I'll get on the mailing lists and FB follow a couple dealers, and keep checking back here regularly. I got the PM2 at a reasonable price by watching for a used one here on BF. Now it also has a titanium deep carry clip which I also bought through BF.

I've never gone after a sprint run, but there was a very specific version of a discontinued model of a knife from a defunct company that I REALLY wanted. I posted in the Want To Buy forum, and got a gold membership so that I could put my request in my signature. And lo and behold, another blade forums member offered me the EXACT knife I wanted at a really good price.

There is a lot of generosity and camaraderie on this forum, and from what I've seen people will try to help you out if you put out the effort. I lurked for a long time before I even became a registered user, but I have really appreciated how much more I was able to get out of the forum as a paying member. There are additional sub-forums that you gain access to, you can actually talk about prices, etc. But most of all it feels like paying a little bit of money opens up your interactions and gets you to participate more. Kinda like how poker is more fun when you play for money, even if it's just a buck.

Pretty much everything stated has been good advice. The only thing I can add, is to frequently visit the Spyderco sub forum. That's where you'll hear about the sprint runs first.

Also, try breaking away from the more "popular" dealers like bladehq, knife center, etc... They're great sites, but they get a lot more traffic and will sell out their sprint runs much faster. Ask around, there's a lot of lesser-known dealers that get sprint runs in too.

Spyderco sprint runs can be pretty easy to find if you stay on top of it. ZT limited editions can be quite a challenge though, as well as some customs too. I've seen knives sell out within seconds of them being listed for sale.
