how do i care for a throwing knife?

Nice thrower! I'd just clean it off after use and try not to throw it around rocks! Looks like it'll handle just about anything.

thanks it is a really a nice thrower. so do i clean it with a damp cloth? or will that damage the blade and cause it to rust?

As long as you dry it off really well and leave it out to dry before sheathing it, you should be fine on rust. A damp cloth should be just fine

huh i didn't realized sheathing you knife for long periods of time was bad how come?

There are a few reasons.

Oils in the sheath or from your hand get pressed against the metal, increasing oxidization.

Moisture in humid environments can also get trapped in there.

In turn, oil from the blade (assuming you put a thin drop on your blade) can get soaked up by the sheath, drying your blade out and increasing oxidization.

Basically, sheaths encourage oxidization of one type or another: anything from increasing rust, to dark spots on the blade, to discolorization of the blade, to a dulling of the finish...and on and on.

I generally recommend keeping all knives out of their sheathes unless you're carrying it or transporting it in the trunk of a car or in a camping bag.

I found that one out the hard way. I kept a WWII British Golok in its sheath. Two months later, it was pitting and rusting. Nothing that couldn't be fixed, but the machete won't be the same. :^/

PLEASE don't be scared off by these scenarios! It is actually not that hard to keep a knife in good repair! Just keep follow what has already been said. And plus, their throwing knives: by no means are they going to be indestructible. By nature they will get dinged, etc. Enjoy yourself.

Next to putting your knife in a vice and "testing" it "Solid Proof" style there is few things that wear a knife out faster than hurling it. Every toss is pretty much as damaging as an overstrike or a spine wack. IMHO throwing knives are the 'consumables' of the knife industry. You have a great looking throwing knife. To keep it that way as long as possible do single throws at your target and have a target that your knife will stick in with ease.

I will just stand behind this Blastshield while they do tests like that if you don't mind. There is a LOT of Stored Energy in that setup.
