Anything i need to do for the CF? What about the blade? How often should I oil the pivot? On my other knives i kind of just did it every 6 months but this ones a nice knife and has no washers, which worries me. Don't know anything about ZDP-189 either.

Don't worry as far as maintenance goes its practically the same as the rest of your knives. If you have an air compressor blow it down when it gets pocket lint and junk inside and then just put a tiny drop of oil on each side of the blade. I tend to do this probably once a month. Also keep up on maintaining your edge. That zdp is excellent stuff but you dont really want to let it get dull. Either strop it every few days or do a few swipes of the sharpmaker.

An Air compressor makes cleaning stuff way easier.

As far as the CF is concerned, I don't think you need to do anything to maintain it. I've never done anything to maintain the CF on any of my knives over the years, and they all still look good as new. CF is more or less eternal.

I have the G10, VG-10 Caly 3 and was also very concerned about taking good care of it and not abusing it as it is such a nice knife. I've had it for 6 to 8 months now and have only lubricated the pivot once or maybe twice. It opens and closes very smoothly and is a lot more robust than I gave it credit for when I first got it.

I babied the knife for a long time because it was my nicest knife, but that was unnecessary. The Caly 3 is a tough knife, made to be used. Enjoy your cf model. I'm sure it'll hold up to any normal edc use.

I never did anything to mine more than a very infrequent touch up to the edge and wipe it down on my pants. Good to go. Super stainless steel + coated CF = little maintenance.

Whoa, strongly agree with that. My knife cleaning and lube routine changed dramatically after I finally bought a compressor. I nearly never need to tear knives apart for cleaning. 90psi works wonders on just about any grit or dirt.

I've had my CF Caly3 and it only gets normal knife upkeep, namely, occasional lube/sharpening :)

Non of my ZDP knives have had any spotting, same can not be said about other steels.

There's smooth with a matte finish. That's my only issue with the CF Caly3. If your hands are wet or conditions are slippery, it's not as secure to grip as the G10 version or a knife with peelply CF scales.

I don't like the CF version as much as the G-10 for just that reason.

I wish they'd made the CF more like that on the Sage I, if not a full-on grippy peel-ply.

I've been using it and its smoothed out a lot. It's still super shaving sharp and i've cut a ton of stuff with it. I love this knife. It's definately my EDC now, i haven't been able to keep just one in my pocket in at least 7 years. Spyderco is my new fav company.

If you have nothing nice to say, go be constructive on another thread. What i meant was should i clean it every so often. Will anything harm it, ie. brake cleaner, any other solvents, etc. Heat, cold.
I was simply joking, 'cause CF is one of toughest most care-free materials you can have today. I was not making fun of you nor trying to insult you.

Cheers.
