How do I center a pm2?

I don't know what I'm doing wrong, I've watched several YouTube videos but cannot get the blade centered. I recently bought and installed a custom set of scales (g10.it, definitely check him out) and while I can get the blade to lock up tightly and fall shut I can't center it.

Did you try pushing the blade to the side?
I've found it real easy, to center a blade.
I open the knife, holding the handle in one hand, I push the blade to the side it's hugging, when closed..
I don't know if it aligns the G10 or the blade, but it works. (In most cases)

You don't...
Send it in to Spyderco. Adjusting the pivot may be akin to tampering and cause your warranty to be null and void.

If this statement is incorrect, I would like a clarification.
Adjusting a pivot may be seen as tampering on the Advocate and thus I don't, ironically enough, advocate making adjustments until you hear directly from company personel.

Shoot the company an email and ask them what they suggest. If they say that it is ok, print that out and send the paperwork in with your knife if you ever need to exercise the warranty further.

Try this

1. Loosen all the screws, including the clip screws
2. Tighten the pivot down
-Is it centered now? (with the body screws loose)
3. Tighten the body screws
4. Reset the pivot to your desired tension if needed.

May not work but its worth a shot.

Thanks for the suggestions, I found a thread over on the spyderco forum which recommended loosening everything and then first tightening the pivot, as above. But then it said to tighten one side first and then the other side, this worked much better than what I was doing. Still slightly off center but much better than before. This knife and my benchmade 943 are the biggest PITA to take apart and put together I've seen yet. And yeah, I know spyderco won't warranty repair a knife once you take it apart but how else can you get custom scales?

I'm glad you got it a little better. Yeah the idea is that if you true the pivot first then snug the body screws, you maintain the centering you had with just the pivot tightened.

You could also do that whole process over, but put a little folded paper wedged between the blade and scales to push it in the direction you want.

On those double sided stepped pivots (PM2, new Militaries, Manix 2) I've usually tighten one side (usually the clip side) all the way down first, then use the presentation side screw to tune the action. It's helped center my blade before. If it doesn't help maybe reverse it and try the opposite.

Hope this helps.

Wow, that works! I opened the knife and pushed the blade to the side if was favoring and that fixed centering?
Thanks.
